LT1 head gasket / COmpression ratios
LT1 head gasket / COmpression ratios Had to pull the heads of my Formula as there was an issue with the passenger side head. I'm going to be picking the heads up tomorrow and I need to order some head gaskets.
Im looking at a GMPP set that is a 4.100 bore and .028 thickness. If my math is right, which I think it is, this will make the SCR around 11:1.
Is anyone running a street LT1 with this compression? If so, are you forced to use premium? Also are you running a colder spark plug?
Looking at the c503 / possibly LT4 hot cam for this, if that makes any difference.
Its a 93, so its a non MAF car so Im pretty sure tuning immediately is going to be a must as well...

With the aggressiveness of LT1 knock sensors I would not consider running anything less then premium on any sort of performance setup. Especially when compression has been increased.

Static compression ratio doesn't mean anything in terms of what octane fuel you should use - your dynamic compression ratio is the important number. Even then, on your setup you're nowhere near any issues with detonation due to fuel octane. You shouldn't be using anything less than 91 octane anyway (per owner's manual), so just use 93 and call it a day. You won't have anything to worry about.
93 is not available in my area so its 91 or 101, just wanted to make sure it would be okay to run on 91. I have no issues spending the money to run premium, I spend $7.50 /gal for fuel for the LS1 so I can drive it on Fridays...

If 91 is the highest octaine in your area then it will be just fine. Remember, air density also dictates how fuel will burn. Using 93 in a high altitude area will do no good.
