PCM Diagnostic port not working??
OK I have a 95 Z and put a 96 LT1 in out of a caprice. On the passenger side where the O2 wiring is theres a ground wire that is supposedly the ground for the PCM. I accidently hooked this up to the starter when I put the new motor in because thats where it looked like it came from. After a day of trouble shooting I figured this out but couldnt see where it grounds to. I just ground it to 1 of the oil pan bolts. Now my SES light is on and my diagnostic port inside the car doesnt read anything out to the scanner. The car runs fine but the fans are on all the time because of the SES light and I cant read the codes if there are any. I checked the PCM fuse its fine. Im all out of ideas let me know what you think. Does the PCM need reflashed or is it shot?

Parts stores often screwup scanning the 94-5 cars. They try and use the scanners that flash the CEL but those wont work. More often than not these complaints endup being noting wrong with the car just the scanning technique.
Also if you used the Camaro wiring and pcm there is absolutely no reason to mention the Caprice thing. That will just lead ignorant people to focus on that detail rather than something meaningful. It is the same engine, of far more concern would be the knock sensors are different 95-96, which did you use? That is not this problem though.

That's your problem. They don't scan OBD-I (like your car is). They were trying to use an OBD-II scanner because the plug fit. Get the right scanner and cable and you won't have an issue.

As suggested they will not/cannot scan OBD-I and if you plan on keeping your car for a while it'd be best to get your own cable and scan it yourself. Use TTS - Datamaster to scan it/log it and email Andrew at AKM cables and get a cable from him. Great guy and service on the par with Lloyd Elliott - EXCELLENT!!!!
