Default Ran Out Of Gas, Replaced Pump, Still No Start

I ran out of gas and my car barely started enough to get home with the help of a freeway service guy. It died just before getting to my house but I was able to get home eventually. I was so sure it was my pump I didn't even check the pressure, I already had a 244lph pump so I just changed it out earlier tonight. I cycle the pump and check the pressure - 42psi, but it just cranks like it has no gas, just like after it died. Full tank of gas btw.

Whats next, injectors?

you gotta check what your car needs to run... Spark, Compression, Fuel.

Check your spark. Make sure your injectors are pulsing. can you smell gas? don't go blaming the injectors. all 8 of them just dont crap out at the same time

But would my spark really just suddenly fail at the exact same time I ran out of gas? I forgot to add that I made it to the gas station, filled up, it started fine but died 2 minutes or less later.

I'll check that stuff tomorrow after work, thanks.

you could check your fuel filter also. You coulda sucked up gunk from the bottom of the tank running that low and clogged your fuel filter. *shrug*

the same thing just happened to me about a month ago with my 95 z28 lt1 i ran out of gas got gas put in it and would start an only idole for a few minutes then die. I could have swore it was the fuel pump but come to find out it was my opti that had failed what are the exact symtoms of the car when it does start?Does it start and run rough smoke a little then die? the next thing i would try since you have allready gotten a new fuel pump put in would be to get a test light to test the spark from the opti to the plugs mine had a really dim light i replaced the opti and it fired right up retested the spark just to see the difference in how bright the test light would light up and it was alot brighter than with the old opti. I have had alot of problems like this with my lt1's just let me know what it is that it is exactly doing and I could possibly help out.

Thanks guys, all valid suggestions, I'll look into them each.

Oh and I'll report back what fixed it, I hate searching threads only to find that in it, the op never posted back as to what worked.

You mean a High Rise hatch? It was an option on early Firebirds

the WS6 hatch is the high rise spoiler. the "formula" hatch is the low rise spoiler.

T/A hatch or WS6 hatch = High rise

Formula or base model = Low rise

haha i just call it the T/A hatch... its not a WS6 hatch because the formula WS6 have the normal hatch (the v6/formula hatch)

96 Formula WS6

You could get the Formula with the High Rise, and I think even the base Firebird, but that I'm only like 20% sure about heh

Now, 99% of the time you're going to run into the TA having the High Rise and the Formula having the base spoiler. Yet "WS6" doesn't = High Rise, as the Formula WS6 cars came with the Low Profile, since as I said the HR option was only for the early year Formulas. Pretty sure only 93 and 94, but may have been up to 95 when the HR become factory optioned on TAs.

As for why people say "Hatch" in reference to the spoiler, is because you can't sway JUST the spoiler. The base model spoiler is a hollow clam shell with the bottom part being one with the hatch. Also makes the Formula's a bit lighter

I just tested the opti with my dad by removing one of the wires still connected to the opti, putting it to ground and cranking it to see spark....no spark. I'm not familiar with the opti as of yet....If I buy an ACdelco unit, does it come with a cap and rotor too, if not, do I need to get new ones? I'm going to start by replacing the coil first, though.

Ok, replaced the coil with MSD blaster coil, and still no start. Two things, though:

1. I discovered that a gold shoelace like ground wire had severed and that the other wires that go between the nut and bolt that bolt up to the block were weak, so I redid those with standard electrical connectors.

2. On the dual connector at the bottom, the male wire ends with two prongs on each, the one of the left only has one prong. I see no sign of it stuck in the old coil or anywhere, it must have broken off?

Could this cause and continue to cause no start as described in point no. 2?
