when I pulled my engine I pulled the tranny with it. It was pretty easy but when it came time to put it back I had to lift the trans while being on the floor...that was the worst **** I had to do not so much cause it was heavy but because I had a hard time aligning the trans. When I pull the motor again I will drop it from the bottom !

Pretty sure he is referring to the additional 8 bolts required to unbolt the shocks from the body. So that makes 14 in all.

If you got 2 fast guys doing it out the top and out the bottom it would be a close race. Both ways took me about 2-3 hours and that was using a lift.
True, but one thing you have to consider is how complete/ready the engine will be with each method. After you get the engine in, with which method would be able to start the engine first and drive the car?

-You don't have to remove the engine harness, you just have to undo the three clips on the shock tower and unclip the three clips under the glove box. Harness should come out with the engine. Once everything is done with the engine, the harness will go back in with the engine...and it is much easier to undo and redo the harness with the engine completely out.
-You also don't have to complete remove the torque arm, you just have to unbolt it from the tailshaft of the tranny.

You forgot unbolt steering shaft. And I am sure there is some more.

I am sure we can argue this til these things are collectors items.

i never try it from the bottom but its pretty easy from the top. i took out the radiator/fans & then unbolted all the pullys & drop the exhaust. then unbloted the manifold & heads. then undid the tranny & pulled the block straight out. it didnt take that long at all. i have heard u can do it pretty fast from the bottom if u got a lift.
i will try it when i go 2 skool in june

When I said remove torque arm I ment to unbolt it from trans of course, it would not make sense to completely remove it. No reason to do so.

The engine harness is really optional you can remove it before or after pulling the engine out its really up to the person, and it doesn't take long to remove it either way.

Yes, M6 to make the swap fast all you do is unbolt the shifter 4 bolts and dont have to deal with touching anything from the inside. Takes only couple minutes.

LOL, I don't know if you realized, but your post sounded like a joke. You basically removed and unbolted everything, and then said it's pretty easy...

I pull from the bottom, but I unbolt the lower balljoints and let the spindles, brakes, and struts hang. You have enough slack in the brake lines to move them over the cradle without cracking a line if you are careful and take loose the brackets on the body, where the hard line connects to the rubber going to the caliper.

Wow, so much heated discussion over pulling an engine.

I have to pull an LT1 soon and I plan on putting the car on jackstands, then hitting the intake with a large crescent wrench until the engine falls out. (Don't get all wrapped around the axle, it's a joke )

For men, we either fall into one of two categories:
you either prefer tops or you prefer bottoms.

I took mine out the top, I was in no rush. I did unbolt the trans, but when I reinstalled I had it attached to the motor. Wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be, hell I think it went smoothly for my first motor swap. I just wish I could get my shifter to separate from the trans, I always have to fight with that when dropping the trans, its always a pain on reinstall. I must have used some impressive RTV 5 years ago when I installed the shifter.
