edelbrock intake...worth it?

I recently went to the local muffler shop and I got a few different scenarios from the guy.
1)just change the stock muffler to a super 44 and run a single pipe out because they don't make a super 44 to fit the stock location and still have duals out.
2)run a catback setup which is a lot more expensive, but I don't really want to do that because eventually I want to redo the whole setup bit headers and all.
My problem with the 2nd option is that if I did do a full exhaust setup eventually, the catback would be a waste. Also, I would have to get rid of it if I did anything to lower the car because of clearence issues.
So my question would be, if I run just a super 44 in the back with one pipe out, will it reduce power? And will the sound be good? I didn't really think there would be a power loss because it dosent go to duals until the muffler...anyway any opinions would be great. Thanks
