EGR Removal/Intake painting **pics**
ok so i started the task of removing my all my emissions crap.. I pulled the intake today to get to the EGR stuff on the back of it which led to a couple other things.....
oooo no where'd my intake go!?
custom EGR blockoffs..
soo after cleaning up the intake i thought maybe a fresh coat of paint would look good..
slapped on about 4 or 5 coats for tonight.. cant wait to pull the tape off tomorrow..
ill get some more pics tomorrow..

how long should pulling the intake take ? i think i have the infamous leak on the back, dripping slowly down. i would love to pull the intake, take off the egr crap and then paint the manifold..maybe a chevy engine red or a hugger orange type color.

OP: Looks good dude.
Doesn't take that long. Just make sure that you memorize where everything goes before you take it off. Keep the bolts and hardware organized. Cover the valley while the intake is off so that nothing gets inside your engine. Use a healthy beat of RTV on the front and back of the block, extend that bead 1" up head head. Bolt on the intake using the proper torque sequence. Allow the RTV to cure for 24 hours before running the engine. Good luck man.

thanks, i'm really starting to get this stuff. been trying to do my own stuff. egr throwing code so i figured might as well lose it, however my mityvac and multimeter and various other tools i ordered are coming tomorrow so i was gonna have some fun and try and see what exactly was wrong with the egr. also noted that my mechanic didnt hook up the vent stuff to the opti when he replaced dist. a few months ago - thats fixed now, lol. i need to get a torque wrench next for those bolts.

only thing i don't like is that this is my dd, so if i can't put it together i don't have a car haha. gotta take a few days off i guess. doing all sorts of stuff. just put seafoam in the oil, hoping that it doesn't make something leak haha. gonna do oil tomorrow during the day i think.
i'm looking at the duplicolor website and they have a nice looking chevy blue too..might go with that. you see red too much out there (like the lt4 and crate engines and such.)
did you sand the intake at all after cleaning it off? if so what sort of grit did you start and end with? what about cleaning the runners? any tips? also wondering about coolant related stuff - i hate draining and bleeding - just pulling the intake would i lose a lot or any at all? thanks guys
