Question Oil pump change - I broke something

As I removed the oil pump, I broke the keyed sleeve lock that holds the drive shaft to the input shaft of the oil pump (didn't know it was there since everything is coloured black with oil).

It broke into 3 pieces. Please tell me this is not out of production

Anyone got the part number for this piece? And is it interchangeable on all small blocks?

it is on smallblocks its plastic on a stock lt1...geet the metal aftermarket one

If you can't get a Melling, which is the most cost effective piece, Moroso also makes a similar part.

Either of those shafts, shipped to where I live will cost me a total of 83$. Unless I can find it in some shop for a reasonable price here (which I highly doubt I will) I will stick to using the GM replacement.

Any situation where you will be putting more load on the sleeve you run the chance of breaking it. HV pumps are the main killer, but you will still see higher pressures if you're running a high pressure spring.

If that breaks, no oil pressure...not good.

You should be able to have someone stick it in the mail to you from anywhere in the U.S. for the grand sum of cost plus 98 cents postage, which is the current rate for the first 1/2 oz. going overseas. Why $83?

How much will a new motor cost when the plastic piece breaks again and you have no oil pressure?

I bet it is more than $83

go check out a Advance auto. or a Napa. i know it sounds retarded but the Napa around my house i got all my oil pump stuff. and honestly i have never used a high volume pump. was never a fan of it.

$83 is worth the peace of mind that it won't break again IMO. Oiling is one of those things you shouldn't cheap out on.

Do you have any friends in the US who could send you one?? The part itself, as you probably have found out is around $12-15. Is it the shipping cost to Bahrain or customs fees, that jack it up to $83??

Its the shipping that Summit charges for it. Its about the only site that takes an international credit card.

I have been dying to buy an LT4 knock module from ws6store but they require a US credit card so I'm stuck there too.

I spoke to a colleague and he said his friend might have an ARP piece at his shop. Will have to find that out first.

I know with more stress its more likely to break, and I don't think I will be going back to using a plastic piece. I have put too much money into this build, and a lot of busted knuckles and gunk in my eyes to skimp on anything when I have made it this far.

Do you actually live in Bahrain, or are you in the US military and stationed there? If in the military, you might be able to get it shipped through some sort of military channel, and pay for it with PayPal, maybe?

I am a Bahraini living in Bahrain

I will have to drop into a local speed shop and see if they have the ARP piece in stock. If not, I will sort out a way to purchase it from Summit and get ripped off by their delivery charges.
