stock manifold weight vs longtubes
#3
I just sold a set of stock manifolds and they weighted 28 lbs in the box. I would say longtubes would weight more because they have a good amount of tubing. Not sure the exact number though, you could try and contact a manufacturer. I have Mac Mid Tube headers and the headers+y-pipe were a lot lighter than the stock manifolds and y-pipe, I would say by about 15 lbs.

well you have to imagine that manifolds are cast iron (I believe so) where as your average LT is made from steel of some grade. should be atleast a couple pounds weight savings like joe said

Yes, the stock manifolds are cast iron. You might be right, everywhere on the internet is says performance exhaust saves weight over the cast manifolds but I would like to see if that is a correct statement for long tubes.

They say these long tubes weigh 10 lbs, I don't believe that because my Mac were heavier than that.
We will have to see if anyone wants to weight their long tubes before installing them to compare.

Yea, the LT set i got was 10 lbs also and they are stainless as well. I would say that the stock manifold alone weighs about the same...maybe a little more than the entire long tube manifold. And that doesn't include the whole blob of weight in the collector and stock y-pipe. I would say at least 10 lbs.

If LT1 manifolds are anything like LS1 manifolds, i would guess a good 5-10lb weight savings with LT's. I wish i had weighed them cause i just had both of them next to one another, but those manifolds were heavier than hell for their size. They are really thick as well, where long tubes are relatively thin comparitively
