Performabuilt Transmissions?
Have any of you guys used them? Do they work well? Just curious about quality of them.
Looking for a new tranny for my Trans Am. Mine died 2 days ago
Have been looking at FLT Stage 4 and Performabuilt Level 2
Leaning a bit more towards the Level 2 because I am going into college this fall and will make the transition to a poor college kid, so the more money in my pocket, the better.
Let me know guys! Thanks!

I'm assuming Performabuilt does custom shift kits?
I planned on getting a TransGO or something of the nature anyway. More precise and easier on the tranny.
I'm just glad I didn't put the stall converter on my factory tranny before it blew out.
Just wanting to know reliability factors.. know some guys use them but wasn't sure.. FLT has always been in my mind as high quality, but like I said I'm making the transition to poor college kid and want that to go over more smoothly lol

yeah they put in a shift kit. so no need to worry about anything like that. just bolt it in and go.
FLT for teh win though!
I just received my Performabuilt level 2 trans. I also purchased the billet converter, to handle my turbo. I looked around a lot, and they seemed to be the best value for the money.
They have their own custom shift kit, which should do just fine.

Yes, FLT definitely always gets good remarks.. but keep in mind I am an 18 year old and having to drop my own money on a transmission and wanting to keep some money saved up for miscellaneous college "fun" expenses and whatnot.
I know FLT is awesome! I'm just trying to find the value but will still kick ***

I would go with CPT "Cahall Performance Transmission." Frank is the man when it comes to 4L60E's and he was the first person to start building 4L60E's right a few years back. His top of the line "Pro Race" build is $1500 which is actually a tad cheaper than Performabuilt. I suggest you give him a call, I was down at his place about a month ago real cool guy. Heard alot of good about FLT too.

He had issues with UPS damaging transmissions which really backed things up. I was at his place not too long ago and he was telling me how he worked the whole shipping thing out and hes back to making some killer trannys. Only downside is that since he's a one man operation your looking at a 3-4 week turaround most likely but worth it IMO.
You can't go wrong with Performabuilt. A level 2 would be more than enough. And I've only heard good things about them. A CPT trans would be great too. I would choose one of those. I almost decided to sell my T-56 to get one but...nothin like running through the gears on the highway.
I had a CPT Pro Race Transmission. Ill tell you what it was a killer peice. I went down to visit Frank as well and he is a super nice guy. He tore my broken trans down right in front of me (took him 10 min) to show me what was wrong. Out of the three you can't go wrong.
i have honestly remember hearing a few bad things about performabuilt... personally i have had no business with them. i have a CPT 4l60 and it has been amazing. if it was me i'd do it once and do it right and either go with CPT or if u cant handle the down time go with FLT.... but thats just me. buy the best parts the first time and not have to worry about it...
so +1 for CPT hes the man

I had performabuilts stage 2 in my impala for a year and a half very good transmission. Since I'm doing the ls1 swap. Ill be giving it to my brother he's going to put it in his grand national.
