If you can wait a little while, I can get you a set of LT4 springs for real cheap (just need to get my new ones first I'm running 1.6's with the LT4 springs and they only have a few thousand miles on them).

If you can't/don't want to wait, check out Jegs all you need is the springs the retainers/locks...is all the same as LT1 stuff.

As Ram and SRJ said, you'd be better off doing them now for the added insurance of not having to worry about them later on. Chances are, in a month, nothing would happen. But do you really want to chance it?

With that, I say wait a month and get the ones from M95z Assuming they're fairly low mileage springs (I'm sure they are).

I always recommend a stock spring change when going to 1.6s, but if you just MUST continue to use the existing springs, you need to do two things:

First when you install one of the new rockers, manually turn the engine until THAT particular rocker has opened its valve fully. Then use your feeler gauges to see how much clearance there is between the coils of the spring.

.060" is the recommended clearance, but some of the dirt track racers around here run them as tight as .035" - I wouldn't though. if you don't have enough clearance, put the stock rocker back on, period.

Second, if you install the new rockers, I recommend that you should not redline the engine. I'd keep the RPMs below 4000, here's why: Once the spring(s) lose control of the valve(s) terrible things can happen.

Of course that pretty much defeats the purpose of the new rockers, right? Why? Because the 1.6s will show an improvement primarily in the mid-range and top-end of the RPM range.

Just my thoughts.

So what do you guys think about the Crane 10308-1 kit? What all do I need to make these work? Will these springs work with the stock seats?

Exact same springs I'm running with my CC503 cam and Comp 1.6 Pro Mags. The Crane 10308 kit is a drop in spring replacement kit with springs, locks, retainers, and shims. They will work with stock seats and stock size valve seals.

You put the shims under the seats. But you need to verify what installed height you want. I was told that with my cam, an installed height of 1.8" was fine.

I went with the 10308-1 kit on my 388 LT1 build-up, but I also used spring locators in addition to the needed shims to set the seat pressure correctly.

Yes of course you need spring locators (aka seats) on an aluminum head. The stock spring seats will work fine with the crane 10308 kit.
