If you have an air compressor do a leak down test. You can isolate the issue depending where you "hear" the air escape, i.e. crankcase (rings etc), intake or exhaust (bad VT part), you would also get bubbles in ur coolant if its a headgasket.

The other two options that it could be is a bad ring(s) or holes in the pistons(which is unlikely)but we are still getting to the bottom of it

Dang bro sorry to hear about that. Curious to see exactly what the cause is.

I'm a little suspicious of the head gasket diagnosis too.

A leakdown test will tell you exactly what's wrong if you want to do that before taking off the heads. My bet is a munched piston or two. Possibly ring lands...

Ya it was a shitty day at Toms dyno. Elliots car was putting excessive pressure into the crankcase. We pulled the pcv valve and the thing was puffin' with the cylinder strokes. Hopefully it's not a ringland but if it is, Cody has many LT1 pistons/rods, or even my old complete LT1 shortblock sitting there as a last resort. It's number 5 and 7, so pulling the the piston/rods out the bottom shouldn't be too bad as long as the crank journals and bores look good.

But then again........... if you're ready for an LSX swap I know someone who could help ya out.

Mike

Well.. if it isn't ringlands then it could've been from valve float smacking the pistons and causing some havoc. Did trouble start at high rpm?

No. It blew the pcv valve out of the valvecover at 3500 rpm. Didn't go above that on the dyno prior.

Well if it comes down to big money you can bet your *** that LT motors coming out and a swap will be taking place. There might be a BIG parts sale going down here..but I'm hoping for the best
