get an lt4 starter. smaller, weighs less. gear reduction ministarter sounds cool too! try going to local parts store with old one for core theyll probably take it, ask for the starter from a 1996 corvette. it weighs a lot less and puts out more power w/ less draw or something. shouldnt cost too much either

Honestly I'd go with something like a Jegs Protorque (formerly CVR).

I'd highly suggest finding a local place that rebuild starters and alternators, I used my local place twice now and they are very good, cheaper than a rebuild and never had any issues with them when finished plus you are supporting your local businesses. They will actually take the time to figure out what is wrong with yours if you are patient and explain it to you usually.

Those are kind of hit and miss, I had a CVR for about a year before it crapped. If the car is a daily driver, get a reman with a life time warranty.

I thought about reman - but then i have to wait for it... and my car isn't running without a starter. lol. What do you guys think about the LT4 starter that holyman suggested?

also - i am 90% sure it is the starter. I have power and everything, but when i go to start the car.. it will turn over for maybe 1/4 a second then it will go *click click click click* and all all the lights will start flickering. Sounds like the starter? the solenoid is integrated with the starter i think?

Negative, but it really doesn't seem like the battery. everything has full power.

when you checked the voltage did you check befor and while someone cranked the car over to see. just cause you have 12-13 volts dosnt say that its a good battery. you have to have the load on it while you check it and it shoulnt drop below 11 volts.

what the clicking noise is when the starter is trying to turn over the motor the batt is not giving enough juice causing the solenoid to jump back and forth causing the starter drive to pop in and out.

hmmmmm... that's really weird if it is the battery, because i drove it for 30 minutes... parked for 5, came back out and it wouldnt start. if it was the battery i feel like it would've had to have sat for maybe an hour with something left on. But who knows, ill try jumping it

yeah i would try jumping it, sounds like a classic battery issue as has been mentioned already.

also check the connections at the battery i had an issue with my car where the positive cable was making less that 100% contact and i had starting issues

hey man you were totally right. i jumped it and it fired right up!

i guess the solenoid is super picky when it comes to voltage levels. i mean - my lights and radio turned on and everything.

I think i know the reason why this happened though, i never installed a capacitor for my stereo system. so i have a sub connected to my amp connected directly to the battery. bad idea? yes. lol. i guess i'll go out and get myself a good cap.

Yeah, mine had the same problem. I replaced the battery then replaced the starter. The starter fixed the problem, sometimes they get "dead" spots and will start then die.

I picked up a Bosch reman starter from Murrays Discount Auto for $130 and they come with a lifetime warranty. Has been working great so far(about a year).
