Default t-56 problem.

Have a 97 z28 hat i just got done building a 383 stroker in. Had a 175 shot on it back in october and it didnt hold up very well. Anyway, My problem is the car wont go into gear when running. Everythign before transmission related was fine. New clutch went in, 100% postive its in right. Clutch was bled with a mity-vac and i am also 100% sure thats not the problem. With the car off i can go into whatever gear i want, no problem. Starting the car in neutral, then trying to go into first, wont work, gear wont go in. The car rolls when pressure is applied to get shifter into first. The transmission fluid was changed, so thats also not problem. With the rear of car jacked up with tires off ground, i started the car in 1st and even with the clutch in the wheels are rolling. This tells me the clutch is not disengaging all the way when pushed in. Sorry for long description, but i think it may be slave cylinder or clutch fork related. Let me know what you guys think.

It sounds like your clutch is not disengaging, like you said. What type/brand of clutch is it? Do you have an adj. master cylinder?

You might just have some air in it, try bleeding it. If that doesn't work an adjustable master like the Tick might be what you need.

I'd say unbolt the slave and inspect the clutch fork. If that doesn't give you anything, it might be that the slave isn't bled all the way. Hopefully you don't have to completely drop your tranny.

thanks for all suggestions. Its a new Zoom clutch. Not an ebay one, was like 500$ off summit. 100% positive clutch is bled, and since its an external slave if you want to bleed the slave its the same as bleeding the clutch. Im thinking the slave is too weak to disengage the clutch all the way, because its a new clutch and old slave with 146,xxx miles on it.

Sorry to be ignorant but i have never heard of an adjustable master cyl. would it help in getting clutch all the way disengaged?

with that many miles, it wouldnt hurt to change the slave. similar thing happened on my cousins car when he installed a new clutch.

also double check to make sure your t-stud bolt (the thing retaining the fork) isn't loose and hasn't backed out....trust me I've gone through this and wished this was one of the first things I would have checked. Also I bought a hays disc that was supose to be for an lt1 setup, however it was too thick and wouldn't allow for the clutch to disengage in a hydrualic pull type setup...I pulled my tranny 5 times as the two issues compounded against my efforts

Did you check the straightness of the rod?
I'll cross my fingers for you.
