I live in Houston and daily drove my LT1, got caught in some nasty rain as well as standing water a few times, never had an issue. Got caught in some standing water once so bad that the brakes pretty much stopped working.

for the most part the LT1 will be fine in the rain....however....if your opti is not COMPLETELY sealed, your going to have some problems.

my car is garage kept. but the few times it did sit out in the rain, it would not start for HOURS or even DAYS after. ended up being a cracked opti cap. so as long as everything is in good shape, you will be fine

The people who cry that the opti can't habndle rain are generally complete imbeciles. Do you honestly thing that a car company could sell a car that would not run in the rain??

I would venture to say that more people have problems from the rain as a result of their home-made CAI/Ram Air sucking in water than from opti-rain problems.

I thought this when I read the question, but decided if I pointed it out I would sound like a smart ***.

I will admit they are guilty of plenty of mistakes, but none that bad.

Thing is people are too feeble minded to understand is ANY distributor will act up if water gets inside. When I was into 4X4 trucks I managed to drown the HEI a few times and that was 4 feet off the ground up on top behind the carb.

I have never drown an opti because they are sealed much better, now granted I don't take my car through quite as much water as I did the truck, but I have taken them through 6" of standing water and on road I have taken them through 2" puddles at 50+mph, freaks the wife out but I think it is funny to see nothing but water out the side windows. It is how we "drift" here in the midwest.

yeah im more afraid of sucking up water through that cold air tube than the opti.

yeah never had a problem had some nasty rain plenty of times. remember the one time i was going to see my then gf and almost crashed a couple times..was some sick *** rain too. i went under a bridge and it was so pooled up there that it was like someone was shooting a fire hose on me. that was the time i almost crashed, lol.

like the guy above said, if your opti is sealed youll be fine. but if your rotor cap is cracked then you may get moisture in. it isnt even the fact that actual liquid water gets in, its the moisture. thats why they put the vent on the 94 b bodies and the 95 up f bodies and y bodies.

if you dont drive through a three foot deep pool of water, youll be fine. and if youre driving in that deep of water, youll have other problems first, like the guy up there said about his brakes.
