Default How do you delete the oil cooler?

I am doing my TH350 swap so I decided to replace all the seals on my motor since most of them leak anyways

I sat and looked at the oil filter housing/oil cooler and I cannot figure out how to remove it and what to replace it with. I haven't tried doing it so maybe it's self explanitory when I do. Anyways, any tips would be great.

Once you remove the oil filter, you should see two bolts that hold the oil filter adaptor to either the oil cooler or the block. Remove it and then remove/unbolt the oil cooler form the block, then bolt the oil filter adapter right to the block. Should be very simple.

Unfortunately I see neither lol. Just one retaining nut over that long stud/pickup tube that the filter screws on. Can you show me a pic of these bolts? I see none 0_o

I take it back about the oil filter adaptor. It looks like you need to get one. You can get one from a junkyard or new from Summit.

it might be a different set up like the one i had on my 94. unscrew the filter and the threads should have a 1 1/16" bolt head that you unscrew to remove the sandwich adapter

I did not need an oil filter adapter. Just remove the oil cooler then cut the studs off the bolt heads and you can reuse them, then screw the filter right onto the block. Get a tall filter to make it easier to put on.

It didn't cost me a cent

i remember unbolting those lines off of my oil filter adapter with that bolt in the center between the lines but mine didn't go up to an oil cooler. Mine actually attached to the water pump and the radiator

Yeah, because instead of piping the oil to a cooler, our cars piped coolant through the special oil cooler adaptor which cools the oil as it passed through it.

Years ago, I did back to back tests with the oil cooler installed and then removed on my 86 Vette. I drove on the street and the interstate at the same speeds (rpms) for the same distances on the same day. I did everything I could to do an apples to apples test.

What I found was my oil temperature ran 20-25 degrees higher with the cooler removed.
