high temp RTV for head to header gaskets
high temp RTV for head to header gaskets i picked up a set of fel-pro LT1 exhaust gaskets and they were WAY to small for the ports on my AFR 227 headed turbo 383. a guy at a speed shop said i could just copper rtv around al the ports and headers. will this hold up with no gaskets?
I've seen people do it. If it were me, I'd try to find some copper gaskets that match or open them up to match the heads. Call up AFR and ask them what gaskets they recommend.
USE COPPER RTV ON THE GASKET !!!!!, do it one and do it right, never worried about leak later, On mustang world, we all did it when we install off road H or X pipe. work the best. im plan to do it on my z28 too.
The copper RTV is an excellent way to do it. Only use the Permatex brand of Ultracopper. It holds up well. I use it on every header gasket I install. It only takes a light coating to keep everything sealed up.
Using it in place of a gasket will not work well.
Kooks even provides an aluminum gasket & recommends you coat it with RTV......
