That is a pretty big gain. How much MPH did you gain by doing the conversion and was it on a LTx motor?

For what it is worth, I dont think dyno numbers are that big of a deal withthis type of mod since the dyno doesn't relicate the amount of air to the lid/cai, this is why I ask about mph.... a .25 gain could be seen by alot of different varibles. Well that is what I would think anyways. I havent done much research on this but I would be interested in seeing the mph gains to judge how much somethign like this is worth on a LTx car.

Nope, just bolted your base on, put the lid on, hooked everything up and good to go. Only thing I trimmed was underneath the hood. Once I opened up the cowl more, it gave me room for the lid.

dyno numbers will not tell you jack crap with a ram air set up for the simple fact that NO AIR is being rammed in at speed!
i gained 2tenths and 1.8mph same day, track within 15 minutes the facts are there if you base every mod from their claim of dyno hp you will have a 500hp 12 second car.....
the merv had it on his Lt1 then he built that Ls hotrod and its workin hard on that motor too

All I had to do for trimming was just the underside of the hood. And basically is was just some fiberglass that was under the cowl scoop. I will snap some pics tonight or tomorrow of the hood, but I haven't smoothed the edges out yet, so it looks a little rough. Shouldn't be noticable after I'm hoping.
Dude, I'm not concerned with how rough it looks, I just wanna see where the cut was made.

Yea, it works really well on it too. I took the Fog Lights out and cut all that steel out, also took the Washer Fluid Resivoir out so basically it's ram-air.

I promised pics of the underside of the hood where I cut for the LS1 lid. Granted this is a rough cut and will clean it up with a dremel soon, but here is what was taken out

The LS1 lid and base setup...

Now when I detail the engine bay out (which needs it BAD!!) ill cut and trim so the cuts look like they were made from the manufacturer like that. Then spray some black paint over it and call it a day

Granted I did some other work to the car since I last drove it (weight reduction, LT headers, and deleted power steering) It does pick up ALOT faster.

It's going to add a pretty good amount of power cause the travel distance for the air is considerably shorter.

Here's how I did mine.. I kept the stock Hood so I have to recess the Lid ontop of the Radiator..

back to back dyno results from a moroso CAI to an LS1 lid swap, on a '95 t/a (the same guy that posted pics of his car with the eficonnections LS1 pcm/coil per cylinder swap in another thread) netted 10rwhp over the CAI. and the same car with a stock intake gained another 10rwhp with a cai over a stocker.

so, 20rwhp from a stock intake, to an LS1 lid.

I looked @ my hood this morning and it looks like I'd have to do a lot of hacking on the hood without any guarantee that it would even fit afterwards. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with what I got.

I would say the 4 inch is perfect, it looks like when its closed (me looking through the cowl opening lol) the lid follows the incline of the hood and probably has 1/4 of an inch gap, so i dont know if a smaller hood would work.
