Well it looks like I was running 1/2 quart too much oil. I swapped in a short delco filter from a long mobil 1 filter without adding any oil and the pressure didn't drop to the 7k limiter. Then I added 1/2 quart back to see if it was the oil level or the filter and it started dropping again, so it looks like I'm going to be running 5 quarts from now on instead of 6.

Interesting.. I've been running the taller filters too. I'll have to try one of the short ones and see what happens.

It wasn't the filter it was lowering the oil level ~1/2 quart that did it.

How come everyone has the same problems but everyone always fixes it in a different way?

I'm glad you got it all figured out, those kinds of problems always bothered me.

wow, your fix was probably the last I would have thought of....too much oil causing aeration issues.....at least it didn't hurt anything

I wish I knew. You would think canton would know how much oil their $350 oil pan is supposed to hold. I just hope 5 quarts is enough to keep the pickup covered on the road course.

Javier97Z28 (mod on cz28.com), myself and now this jackass have all had this problem with this pan as well as a handful of others who've posted here and there. I done told the jackass of this thread of the fix, but just like when I tried to talk him out of going LE he had to find out the hard way...

Kinda rude to post that up unless you consider yourself the GOD of all LT1 knowledge. Sometimes it's best to get everyone else's opinion(s) instead of sticking with one know it all!

Not in this instance. Obviously if he would've listened to me he would've saved himself having to make this thread. Think about that!
I AM THE LT1 LIZARD KING! HEAR ME MEOW!
Oh... and I consider said jackass to be a friend of mine.

I did the same thing, I check my oil regularly so I didn't need the car to tell me the oil was low.

Scratch that, pressure is still dropping but later. Looks like it's time to pull the pan and put in a real windage tray

I figured I'de update this in case anyone else has similar problems with the pan. I pulled the pan and basically gutted it, the only thing I left in it was the crank scraper and baffles, then I put in a moroso windage tray thanks to 96capricemgr's recommendation and now it holds 70psi to my 7k limiter. I'm running 6 quarts with a long filter.

And JFYI the LS1 dipstick is about 1.5" longer than the LT1 in case you guys running aftermarket pans want to have a dipstick that reads more than 1/8" of oil.

Congrats. It's always a huge relief to solve some ongoing clusterf$*% of that magnitude...
