I'm somewhat surprised the hordes haven't risen up in a loud chorus of "Datalog! Datalog! Datalog!"

You've got an OBD I lump there, and I gather it's fairly cheap and easy to interrogate the PCM to find out what it knows and how the motor is running and all sorts of other stuff. Won't tell you how many cubes you've got, but it'll tell you whether it thinks it's rich or lean and what the timing wants to be and knock retard and all sorts of other stuff. Tunercats seems to be the software of choice. Do a search and get the cable and software and learn about computer controlled EFI motors.

Then come back here and dazzle us with what you've learned.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Otherwise, no clue.

I saw the car in person when he first bought it, and it's no doubt running rich. Some of it may be due to the lack of cats, but there is plenty more fuel coming out of that exhaust...

I dont have the money to spend on tuners right now, but I do have the OBDII connector. I have HPtuners for my Saab, the program doesnt support my year of camaro but do you think the cables/box would still work with pryos tunercat?

Here's some more updated pics of the rockers:

Found the sticker in a most odd place...

So how do I check the adjustment? Ive done over heads on the big rig desiels back in the day, and I know you shake the rocker to see whats on overlap, the way the car sits right now all the rockers are moveable except one.

Seems a little random. Is there no spec in clearance between the rocker and pushrod?

Update: Took the belt off today and ran it, no change in motor noise. Plan on taking it to the track friday night after a 2 hour drive. We'll she if I break anything or not.

Comp Cams has a special process for the Pro Magnum. I found it on their web site when I was adjusting mine. I'll try to find it and post a link for you.

Actually, I'm attaching their pdf file. Hope it helps.

those look like crane 10308-1 dual coil springs and like others said guideplates are there too, those springs are rated to around .600" lift and the rockers are NSA so I imagine you'd have around a mid-high .500" lift cam. atleast you know it's not a hotcam or else you'd most likely see GMPP 1.6 SA rockers on there.

also the head bolts don't look like ARPs (no washer or stamping) so either the heads haven't been off or the person that put it back together used OEM replacements which isn't very common for performance oriented people

So results from the track last night are disappointing. Best was 15.4 at 96mph, or somewhere around there. Slips are in the car. Had some serious traction issues, couldn't launch the worth a crap, had a hard time topping out 2nd without losing traction, ugh. Got 4 runs in, last run the track officials pissed me off. Let the other two lanes run twice before sending out lane, wtf.... so I called it a night after red lighting it. No point running when your frustrated like that. First run of the night was scary too, second one to go down the track after starting and boy howdy did I have a hard time keeping control. Give it gas and the rear wanted to go across the starting line first, lol.

All in all, 2 hour drive down south, 4 decent runs on the track, now i just have to see if she will start this morning without any problems. Then get some tires atleast....

Where did you run? What was the altitude? Im just asking becuase when I lived in colorado Springs my car made about 25% less power than it does now due to the sea level mod. (6500 ft lower makes much better power)

So before you get bummed about 96mph in the quarter look up the conversion for the weather and altitude at your track when you ran.

Looks like this car has the normal mods for a decent 355 or 383 IMO you did not get dinged too bad on price.

Get some tires...that's killing you if you can't plant the power. No sense in even really looking at too many other "problems" until you can get the power to the ground.

Hey man, why dont you just strip the block? Its not your daily driver is it? If I bought a car that was as confusing and mysterious as that one id take it ALL apart, unless you really dont care aslong as it runs. Id strip it, label it, and research it, then sell what i dont want and buy what i do.

Get some tire on that thing and you should run mid 14's what was your 60ft time? I wasnt able to make it because my second walbro fuel pump crapped out. Hopefully Ill have it back together by next Friday So I can go to the track. I trapped 95mph with bolt on's only and 273 gears and 140,000 miles on my stock long block. So I would say there isnt much more than bolt on's done to your car.

R/T ... .256
60' ... .2.513
330 ... 6.813
1/8 ... 10.398
Mph ... 71.94
1000 ..13.272
1/4 ... 15.670
Mph ... 94.07

That was my best run before redlighting, not my best r/t though.

I ran in pueblo co at our high altitude.

I cant strip the block right now as I dont have any place or equipment to do it. I plan on doing it eventually, just not in the next few months.

Next time I hit the track ill get whatever is the most track friendly tire that will fit on the salad shooters, and a small shot of nitrous.
