Re-use stock rods after rod bolts stripped?
What to do?
The nuts are stripped on the # 3 and 5 Rods in which spun the bearings also.
The rods are not bent and the block is not damaged but I'd like to keep the rods and just add new pistons.
My question is should I just buy new rods or get some new ARP LT1/4 rod bolts? I have access to a press and it would be free of charge to me.
People are telling me to get SCAT rods but I've read that stockers are just fine.... Im not looking into making butt loads of horespower either.
My other question is what are the best pistons to go with that'll give me more compression than stock? I'm going to be running a .026 Headgaskets also.
Thanks

I agree, I would not reinstall those rods until they are reconditioned. You have put them under stress, and they need to be checked for any non-visual issues.
For a few dollars more, get some quality aftermarket ones with the rod bolts already installed.
Since you are already looking at pistons (the stockers are junk) why not just buy forged rods and pistons and be done with it?
There are lots of brands and combos out there, you need to specify a target cost and let that drive your decision.
What kind of compression are you shooting for? Stock is 10.25/1 IIRC.

I'm looking to but up the compression to 11:1?
I have about $600.00 to play with and I've been looking at some SCAT kits. I don't know what the best combo out there is.

I knew then it was a rod knock, I had the car towed home by a friend and tore the engine down and found the nut stripped from the bolt about 1/4 inch and the other just starting to strip.
