I know when I did mine it was hard to get out... But then again I didnt try all kinds of pullers I used the Kent moore LT1 tools.. But make sure you arent binding or pulling against yourself

Just a normal universal puller is what I used, just make sure you put in a bolt smaller than the bolt that holds the crank hub on so the balancer has something to push against on the crank itself.

The worst that can happen is the bolt snapping off in the crank but you should still be able to get it out

It is the user not the puller trust me on this. You can use any puller, the hubs aren't on that tight. This is what you guys are doing wrong....you have the wrong bolt in place in the hub. The hub has a step on the inside, and most likely the puller is making contact with the step. You guys are whacking it with an impact wrench for all its worth and what you actually are doing is attempting to rip the hub apart.

Get a bolt like this:
1. Allen headed bolt about 4 inches long. Make sure it is narrow enough to fit inside of the crank snout without touching the threads too bad.
2. Put the pointed end of the puller into the recess in the allen head of the bolt, while the bolt is bottomed out in the crankshaft.
3. Hit it with the impact gun.
4. Watch it come flying off.

Man it's been a while but I'm pretty sure I used a socket extension in the bolt hole to push against and just a standard 3 jaw puller. I'm sure you have tried it but it's worth mentioning.

Hopefully it's not a build up of welding wire! Best of luck.

Did you try heating up the hub with a torch and then using the puller and something like a 4" caliper bolt?

That works just like an allen bolt. Great idea since extensions are easier to find in the garage than allen-head bolts.

To the OP...if the pointed part of the puller is anywhere inside of the hub when you guys are hitting it with the impact gun it is most likely the wrong setup.

Did you guys get the crank bolt out? You can't use the crank bolt to get the hub off. Some guys will simply loosen the crank bolt and use the puller on that. That is a no-no. The washer on the crank bolt sometimes gets hung up on the inside of the hub.

i had one onmy z28 that would not come loose like that and i was not pulling against the hub or binding on anything. i finally got pissed of breaking 2 harmonic balancer pullers and knock the crap out the hub on the sides and it came off like it was greased. mine had never benn off before and was just really stuck on. after i got it off it would go on and off like any other balancer and without having to use exessive force.

I'd try a couple heat cycles on the hub, maybe try pulling it hot. If it still won't budge try tapping on the sides to relieve the stress with a small metal hammer while its under tension (puller is tight).

Best of luck man!
