Default Popping and Missing in high RPM's

Ok so just curious as to what replies i get as far as ideas that are causing my current problem.

Little background-
AI 226/234 .569/.570 110lsa cam
Base tune from Madtuner.com
Stock bottom end
Stock Intake & TB
PS LT's & No cats
GM opti, new coil, MSD wires, tr55's
255lph BBK pump, GM FRP, SVO 24#'s

THe problem i have is when i get the car up in high RPM's (5000-6000) the car will start to miss and pop real bad. The car pulls preety hard up til then but it a very obvious problem up top. I've had the car to Speed Inc for a dyno tune from ION twice now with both times the car having issues not allowing to get a full dyno tune. The current computer in there ION told me pulled a code for a Faulty ECM so that is getting replaced next week which could help with the problem a bit but i can't seem to believe it will fix it completely so i figured i'd post on here to see what other ideas i can get to check out. I've gone threw hell and back with this car with replacing damn near everything.

Let me know any ideas anyone has.

Thanks!

That is one thing i have yet to check is the rockers. I'll try to check those today but they were adjusted to 1/2 past then poly locks were put on so i dont think they would have moved but i'll check.

I'll run out and pull the drivers side valve cover and take a peak at how things look quick.

Lets SpeedInc. set the valves, trust me on this. If their not just right, your losing out big time on power. The black smoke might be related to the valves and or the incomplete tune. Any word on the converter yet?

Gonna get a new computer from ION ordered today possibly then i have to take the car and put it on the rollers at the shop i got the convertor so they can see what its doing, if its the convertor then its still under warrenty and i'm good there. So we'll see once the convertor comes in.

I wish i would have had Speed Inc set the rockers one of the times i was there because now it would be a very expensive trip just to have them set the rockers as i want to know everything is perfect before it is back at speed, i cant afford these trips for tunes then have issues and not be able to get tuned.

Black smoke is a sign of excess fuel, I believe. It's probably just running rich due to it needing a tune. Do you have any way to datalogue it? If you don't have the software or anything, you could probably get ahold of jakesz28 over on qcaaf. He told me he could datalogue my car for me, if I needed it. I should probably get back to him on that. Because my car still seems to be running rich as hell with some black smoke.

And actually, did you check the spark plugs? My car was pooping and missing up top big time a few weeks back when I went to Cordova. I pulled the plugs the next day, and they all were bright red. Swapped them out, and haven't had the problem since.

Whoops. I put in the wrong letter. lol. It seemed like it was pooping though. You should've seen the smoke trail I left whenever I got on it. I could've sworn I was driving a diesel.

Opti was just replaced not too long ago, i'm leaning more towards the popping being from the tune dumping alot of fuel up top?

My car was doing that back when I first bought it. A spark plug change fixed it right up, even though the plugs in it looked new.

Seems to me if its poping thats from being lean! Take the car out run it hard and pull over right away. Then pull a plug and inspect it(wear a glove, **** will be hot obviously). If its black then its rich, if it's white then it's too lean.

What could be causing the miss in high rpm while driving but not in nuetral or park? i can wrap it to 5500+ in nuetral or park but driving if i put it to the floor once it hit's 4500+ it pops and misses like a SOB. I had a faulty computer last time the car was at speed inc but i got that replaced and was hoping it would fix the problem but it def did not... Any ideas on why it will only do it when its under load (driving)?

high rpm miss could be a number of things

-bad plugs
-bad icm
-bad coil
-bad wires
-bad ground
-bad opti
-bad connector
-etc

I even had an ICM not properly bolted to the bracket cause me a high rpm miss once that left me searching forever

when the car is in neutral or park there is no load on the motor, having a load on the motor will expose a weak spark/fuel issue better

Plugs are good, Coil is new, Wires are brand new MSD's, Opti is new. What do you mean by bad ground and bad connector? I'm going to try to take the ICM to get tested this weekend just to rule that out also...
