Temp
So I bought my camaro in the fall when it was a little colder and the mpg was in the low teens. 12 to 14 was normal. The last two tanks were in the higher teens 17 and 18. I noticed to day(80 degrees) that my coolant temp was staying just below the 2nd notch which I think is 185. It's possible that the guy I bought the car from changed the thermostat and didn't tune the car. I think that with the warmer weather my car is finally warm enough to change modes so it's using less gas. Does this sound right?
I'm also thinking of getting a tune to tell tell my car it's 'warmed up' at the colder temp. What site has good mail order tunes?

The question is would the colder thermostat keep the coolant below the temp that puts the car In the closed loop?

Are you you theres not a 160 in your car? I would pull it and check it. I have a 160 in mine & it acts just like yours. I never get above about 185. MIine has been tuned for a 160 and tuner said my temp.is fine.

A common misconception. You do not "need" to tune anything at all just for a thermostat. It is a purely mechanical part.
A complementary function is to reduce your fan temps, that will help keep the car cooler and will work better with a lower temp thermo, however that would also help even with the stock one.
