Default Open loop to closed loop switching after header install

Not sure why but after I installed a set of new jet hot coated pacesetters the car seems to tun smooth and then rough. I hooked the scanner up and it's jumping from closed loop to open loop now. It will jump back and forth every 5 seconds or so. Any idea why?

Sounds like your 02s are toast. Are the headers coated?

I think you might have to replace those 02s then. Coated headers are known to kill your 02s when you first run the car after installing them.

I should also ask if you spliced the 02 extensions or bought the plugs?

well I have an extension on one side but the other is spliced. The thing is it was spliced before I had the headers on and it was fine. This all happened after the new headers. when I first got the car it would do that but then I found out that the wires for the heaters for the O2s were cut so after I ran new heater "power" wires it ran great. I just went out and checked to see if it is still getting power to the heaters and they are fine. So nothing has changed other than putting the headers on. I wonder if I damaged them swapping them from the manifolds to the headers or did the header coating do this?

The coating has been known to foul out O2s after the first couple of heat cycles on new headers. That is why it is recommended to change them after a week or so of running them and not to install new ones with the new headers.

Replace the O2s and you should be good to go.
