The side the starter mounts to was broken off! a huge piece of it. my dad wielded it back together but also!,,, my oil pan was wielded together, as if a hole was taken out of it! i have a feeling the dropped the engine and it screwed things up so my engine is very weird!

Possibly a return oil line for a centrifugal blower.

Oh and you should know that the cheap cast Eagle stuff is a step backwards from stock. From everything I see here you would have been further ahead to buy a junkyard engine.

ss.slp.ls1 made a good catch on the starter boss thing, can you get a more detailed pic of that?

looks to me like a LT4 heavy duty timing gear with an LT1 standard duty chain. Doubt that'll hold up very long the chain style is very different

On second look, the big sprocket looks like it has the correct teeth for a "silent chain" or what ever they call a non roller style chain, so if you replaced that as a set, that should be OK.

(At least it doesn't look like the dozen or so '97 OEM timing sets that I have seen)

Also it looks as if some material of the block that the starter is supposed to bolt it isn't even there. Like it was broken off. That might explain why you don't have a stock starter and stock flywheel...

I agree with 96CapriceMgr that they sent you mismatched parts. That's why you don't order your rotating assembly parts from JEGS...

I'd get that block machined if you want it to last for a long time.
^^ X2 it looks like it was broken off. So thy drilled it to use a sbc 350 with the offset starter bolts. Then they used a sbc 350 flywheel. Thats what it looks/sounds like to me. i remember that my 350 in my old chevy had that angled offset bolt pattern for the starter and that it had a bigger flywheel than my f-body.

Heads look different too - look at the bolt pattern for the headers. My 95 heads had two bolt locations on the outside of the 1/2 7/8 ports - one right next to the port and another an inch away... The exhaust manifold used the outer bolt holes and the headers used the inner bolt holes.

Here's a pic of mine:

Here's your pic:

PS - On second thought, I might just be seeing gasket material covering the hole.
