Unbelievable!!
Okay so after me and my dad pulling the engine out of my 96 z28, we were going to replace all parts in the engine (rebuild engine). But after putting the new crank and pistons in the pistons stuck up a 1/4" so my dad calls jegs asking we got the wrong crank. The guy told us that its not the crank its your engine..!?! He says that we have a different engine that has a smaller stroke or something like that. So in confusion he gives us the right crank and everything works perfect! But another problem is a out starter and flex plate. The old flex plate on my car was a 168 and the stock one is i think 154? So basically somebody took the engine and replaced with a another LT1? Or whatever engine i have in here!? I mean everything mounts the same has a LT1 but you need a crank with a smaller stroke and a diff starter and flex plate. Last night we but on the new flex plate which is a 154 or 156, whatever it is and the OE starter doesnt even line up with the holes. I got the old starter and tried it out and the flex plate was too small. So basically the 168 flex plate and the old starter that i have no clue about will only work..
I cant seem to figure out what engine i have in my car!?! It is a 350, so what could be going on?!
please help and sorry about the story, its not worded that great, im kinda in a rush.

5.7 is stamped on the block! so i am so lost right now, the starter that will work for my block has staggered mounting holes and requires a 168 flex plate. Mine isnt the baby lt1. So im assuming i have a older block.

^^^Well I see the "327" on the side, so it is in fact a LT1. I don't know why the crank they originally sent you didn't fit unless they sent you the wrong one.
Also you should have just cut/polished the stock crank and reused it. It's a pretty good quality peice.
Also are you just replacing all the bearings and rings without honing the cylinder walls and align honing the mains? I hope not. And I also hope you are having your rotating assembly balanced if you do use the new crank...

No no no. Everything i bought is OE. Me and my dad are just rebuilding my engine cause i had a spun bearing. New: Crank, Cam, Bearings, Connecting Rods, Pistons, Piston Rings, Oil Pump, Headers, and much more.
The 96 OE crank from Eagle didnt work for my block because the stroke is too long, Pistons and connecting rods are OE too so they sent me a diff. crank which looks exactly like the other just a shorter stroke, i installed it and it left the pistons in perfect position.

An L99 has the same deck height as an LT1 so the thoughts about it being an L99 block are silly at best.
Jegs sent you some mismatch in the crank/rods/pistons.
The car has been cobbled together by someone ignorant that is why you are finding a mess, and you need look no further than this thread to see that coveres the majority.

LT1 blocks are identical from '93-'97. What bolt's up to them are what differed throughout the years. You have a '96-'97 timing cover bolted to it, hence the reluctor ring on the crank snout against the crank sprocket. However you don't have a OEM '95-'97 timing set. (At least it doesn't look like the dozen or so '97 OEM timing sets that I have seen)
Also it looks as if some material of the block that the starter is supposed to bolt it isn't even there. Like it was broken off. That might explain why you don't have a stock starter and stock flywheel...
I agree with 96CapriceMgr that they sent you mismatched parts. That's why you don't order your rotating assembly parts from JEGS...
I'd get that block machined if you want it to last for a long time.
