bigt94z should be shooting for 11's with better weather also in my old formula and a 6 speed. He's going 12.2's so far, but has since pulled out some more weight and changed a few things.

Can I pull the cam out of the lt1 in the rx7 and play? LOL

Basically you take a stock longblock from gm and drop it in to a car that has everything that can be done to it. Must have stock LT1 intake, no Lt4's. But then again idk know the official ruling on carb. conversions(there really is no ruling) but if im not mistaken tom cowle had a carb intake when he set the record. I thought i remembered hearing he ran an 11.52 carbed then swapped back to efi to get the 11.48? Could someone please confirm that?

Yes Tom got a lot of crap and was nobody took him seriously since he did the carb swap and didn't consider that a bolt-on, he then put the EFI back on and spent a lot of time on the dyno getting it dialed in before running the 11.48, must be nice to have a dyno shop sponsor your car...

as for the rules I post this up every time this comes up, the rules are based of the original rules for this shootout as done by GMHTP, see the rulles here (BTW, you will see som familiar names in there, and those guys are still around):

Alot of crap is a good way to put it...

But for the record my car wasn't gutted, it carried all the interior panels, 2 seats, radio with speakers, door bars and all.

It was fun squeazing blood from a turnip and the car was deadly consistant to race as well. I wish the best of luck to all those pursuing this.

im glad to see there is still interest! i think im gonna go for 11.80 then call it quits and build a budget 383 street car that can run 11.50 on motor and 10.50's on spray. or the hell with it just a 383 that can run 10.50's on motor only

i got a few mods here and there:

madz28 tune
prostars
ls1 driveshaft
SS3600
CPT 4l60e
moroso CAI
Pacesetter Longtubes
true duals dumped
airfoil
160 stat
!front swaybar
!AC
!EGR
!AIR
!front bumper support
!fogs
!rear seats
!passenger seat (track only)
!trunk panels + carpet

thats all i can think of for now but im sure theres more. shes still a street car. drivin in the summer. has complete bone stock suspension, bone stock 3.23's, raceweight is 3245lbs (if the track scale was right last time out) and best pass so far is 12.42 @ 107mph in the summer heat and humidity. i got a sunoco pin on hood waiting to go on but i keep putting it off cuz its gonna be such a bitch to install. im just a 20 year old college kid trying to compete with the big boys on a budget! if i can hit 11's bolt on only or 11.80 (the old longest standing record, the one i orginally intendd to beat) i will be happy and start to build a real motor

Seems to me that you were the one giving Tom all of the crap because you thought he didn't follow the rules in your magazine article. I haven't read it lately, but I don't remember anything stating that an induction change was not allowed. After all a intake manifold swap has always been considered a bolt-on.

They did have a noise requirement though.

Would headers through an open Y pipe have passed those noise requirements, or were you flexing the rules that you so adamantly defend?

I was goin for it... but meh i lost interest in drag racing. i was looking at 12.50's with full exhaust, gears, stall and cai, but i sold my drag tires to keep me from blowing money on it. i really didnt' feel like doing a bunch of weight reduction either, it's my daily driver. no need to sacrifice safety for some stupid timeslip.

Um, then you need to go back and do a little more research because you are *** backwards here, I was the first to commend Tom for all the work he put in, and the first of all the other guys bashing him to say we should give him the record but caveat it with the fact that he had a carb setup.

I have since put the mufffler back on and no there was no difference, and if it would pass noise requirements, no that shootout was held at Englishtown, they have strict noise requirements at that track only that not only would my car not pass with the mufflers on, but more then half the cars on here would pass it either. Who said I adamantly defended anything, I am just the keeper of junk, which meant I had that article laying around my house, I read it many times and had friends there competeing who are in that article. I was just good enough to scan it and host it on my web site, because other people wanted to see it...

BTW, not sure where this attack is coming from, but please get your facts, before spouting off, I have talked to Tom many times and I was never giving him crap, I did want to let eveyone know he got the record because and he used an out of the box GM intake and since it was a carb intake he switched to carb, we should just note that he had the carb. He then went out to shove it in the face of all those "OTHER" people, and put the EFI stuff back on, tuned it, and did even better, and if anything that just proved there was no advantage over the carb setup...

i say that you hit your 11.80 put a kit on that like a 150 shot you can continue for the bolt on record and run 10s. and while you do that build your 383 then wen she dies throw in the new monster.
