Harder to get the proper valvetrain geometry on stock setups with stud mount 1.7rrs. Shaftmounts get rid of most all geometry issues when properly installed, but are a taboo subject for some reason in the LTX crowd. Maybe because it doesnt come with them stock .

1.7rrs are possible though, and have been done before .

I understand the valvetrain geometery issues, however in theory would they make more over a 1.6?

You have to look at your current cam specs and ask yourself:
1) Will my heads flow well at max lift?
-For example, what good is having .650 lift when your heads lop off at ~.550-.575 lift.

2) Can my springs support it.
-Lets say you have a GM847 cam with .539/.558 lift. The valve train to support up to .660 lift is going to be more expensive.

If you have stock cam, or other low lift cam, then yes, the 1.7's will put out more. But most aftermarket cams are already ground with enough lift to work well with 1.52/1.6 rr's. 1.7's would be overkill.

I just installed Scorpion 1.7/1.65s on my son's 96 LT1 Vette a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to go 1.7/1.7 but was shipped the wrong rockers but I decided tojust keep them.

I also installed Scorpion 1.7s on my 388 LT1 back in 2007.

To get the lift I wanted by only going only with the lobe would have caused me to up the duration higher than I wanted. In an interview, a CompCams engineer said it's best to get the lift your want with the rocker arm rather than the lobe. Ight have been Godbold, since he's the one most often interviewed and is their lead guy.

I suspect there's a timidity component as to why they aren't run more often.

For me it was worth 10 rwhp and 6 lbft of torque on the dyno. I switched from 1.6 s/a Promags to 1.7 nsa Scorpions. Rocker swap, guide plates, 7/16 studs, chromoly pushrods is all that was added. ET went from 12.97 to 12.86, that was over a year ago. Awhile back I changed plugs and wires (since they were the originals) and ran a 12.82 @ a hefty 3900# with the bolt-on's in my sig.
