Default about to dynotune, should I get my intake ported and upgrade to 58mm tb?

I finally found someone in North Texas to dynotune my '96 LT1, but it is going to cost my $550!!! So I don't want to do this twice. I was going to go ahead and get everything I wanted. Will Getting Lloyd Elliot to fully port my intake manifold and upgrading from 52mm to 58mm throttle body really significantly help with my dyno numbers? You can check my sig to see everything that is done to my car to see if this is necessary. Thanks for any help.

Do you mean port it just for the 58mm throttle body? you can do that yourself with a dremel.

He fully ports the intake I believe. I just edited my message to say that.

Guys have actually lost HP porting their intake manifolds if they are done sloppy. It's really a toss up and if it's done correct you will gain a few. There has been guys that gained HP by switching back to their stock manifold. I'm going to swap my original back on here in the future and see if I gain/lose anything over my ported LE on the dyno. For the money, I would probably just put on the bigger T.B. and port the opening to match the 58mm.

Agreed. You should notice a gain, might not be significant, but all mods build on each other...

All mods build on each other if done correctly. There are plenty of hack porting jobs done even by the "best" that result in power loss.

Also agreed, but in his first post he stated he was going to have it ported by Llyod Elliot, so hack job never came to mind.

I'm one of those people, 375rwhp stock intake manifold and 52mm tb, 369rwhp ported intake and 58mm tb.

Home ported or professionally ported?
Was it with the same tuner and all other mods identical?

I just wrote lloyd and he wrote back in 5 minutes! Anyhow he said "If someone ports the intake that doesn't know what they are doing, they can definitely lose power. Most common is when people "gasket match" the intake. The gasket area is not the restriction and doing this will just make the gasket area even larger and cause the air to move even slower here resulting in lost power. Most people do not open up the runner in the restriction areas (behind the injector ski slope) and so they do not see any gains, only HP loss."

With a stock cube cam only build it is not worth it, but with heads and a cam go for it.

It was done by a popular LT1 head porter that didn't port my current h/c setup. Track results also showed no gains.

I got mine ported while it was apart just because I figured I might as well while its apart, can't say if it hurt or helped though since I was doing a completely different setup than before

From what I've heard you have to spin the motor pretty high to make use of a ported manifold and even then gains are marginal. With LE1 heads and a 306 cam I can't see it doing much good porting the manifold or even going bigger than a 52mm throttle body. Also from what I've read a 52mm tb will support up to 475 fwhp. So honestly I don't know that either would do you any good.

Edit: Just noticed that you have a 150 shot so the tb might be worth it and if you have someone legit porting the manifold then you might see a gain...it would still be fairly small though. If you have the expendable cash then it might be a good idea but ultimately yes you should ask the professionals what kind of hp you might pick up.

Quick Reply: about to dynotune, should I get my intake ported and upgrade to 58mm tb?
