Default cracked flywheel!!!

its a 1997 camaro LT1 auto. i have been hearing a weird clunking sound through the floorboard randomly at idle and deceleration. well, i took off the flywheel cover and noticed my factory flywheel is cracked around the center where the flywheel is bolted to the crank. is this common? anyone have recommendations for a good aftermarket flywheel?

since you have an auto you're loking for a flexplate, only manual transmission cars have flywheels.

Clunking is prob not the cracked flex plate (but that does need to be replaced). The sound is probably a worn out tranny mount as this is the most common clunk we get in our cars from the tranny.

Check it out as well.

I'd just score a used flexplate

Doing neutral drops will cause that. A lot of stress on that over time will snap them.. I would say it would be fairly common to break these on a lot of rear wheel drive auto cars. If you are planning on building up your car mows a good time to invest in a higher quality flexplate, try SUMMIT Racing.
