Default Ram Air Hood

Hood was on the car when I got it, I have no idea what make it is. There is no brand or #s on it any where. Is this what I would need to make it functional ??

No way to tell if the SS kit will work with that hood without looking at the underside and mocking the whole thing up. Not to mention a stock CAI is probably better than the SS setup. Just go with a normal CAI.

That pic really doesn't show what we need to see, but a scoop that big it would be difficult to get a box that will seal very good

It looks like the box would fit, but I dont know how well it would seal.

Maybe I'll jusy stay with my CAI and let the hood just let air on the motor.

I think the Ultra Z hood is the best way for ram air thats bending it which while it will work is creating a restriction beyond the typical ones found in a Ram Air. The Straighter the better basically.

Did you ever figure out what brand hood that is? I like that it's different without looking ricer. The underside looks like it is the same as regular LT1 SS hoods, but as said above a normal CAI will probably work better than the SS ram air. Also, the factory LT1 SS ram air box is alot better than those aftermarket ones. The bends are alot smoother/radiused whereas the aftermarkets have sharper bends.

Since we are talking about hoods, what is the deal on the ws6 ram air hoods? They have a "deflector" in the vents that seems like it would restrict air flow. Can I just pull that piece out and will it improve air flow or is it a waste of time

I would not go with a factory SS ram air intake. As they are prone to heatsoak causing high IAT readings. Either switch to a ls1 box or stick with a regular intake with an elbow.

The deflector your talking about is there to keep rain water out of your intake and air filter.

So pulling it out would be ?? Bad!!! ??? I honestly don't see how it would accomplish keeping out rain in major rain storms at 70 mph

Because in the 80 and 90s, GM, for the most part, built crappy cars... Look at the mid 90s trucks, how many of them have gauge issues? Pretty much all of them. They cheaped out in every way they could, on any car they could, to save a buck...
