Hell, with the lips on the edge of the lobe like that I would think it would be pretty easy to fill in the missing material. So what's the problem?

Valve float,improper/weak springs.Once you start bouncing the lifter on the cam and it starts to chatter it will beat thru the hardened portion of the lobe(billet or not)which is very thin to begin with, soon as you wear thru it it will snow ball from there.

it was a mix of things for me. sticky lifter lead to severe wear and then it had collapsed on me so then the rock would never stay adjusted right and it lead to that.

probably not long at all. its a shame and it sucks but thats why whenever it comes to things like that i always replace everything. yeah you Could reuse it. but id rather shell out alittle extra cash and get everything new then have to respend the money on the part i just got.

I had a customer bring in an LT1 a couple years back, same thing. He claimed he was perfect about new synthetic oil every 3000 miles. I asked him about the exact second he noticed something wasn't right. Of all he said, this is what was off: "...6600 rpm..." So I started asking about his combo, since I hadn't built his engine. Catch what's wrong: "..COMP XFI cam, COMP 1.6:1 Pro Magnum rockers, Crane dual springs, LT4 heads and intake, but everything else is original." I tore it down, yep, everything else was original, including his pushrods and lifters. The car was showing 120,000 miles. but sure enough, a lifter wheel had grooved a cam lobe. I tried to sell him on a solid roller and a tune, but all he bought was a rebuild, including ARP fasteners and appropriate honing, forged pistons and rebalancing, and aftermarket link-bar HR lifters with 0.080"-wall pushrods.

I definitely wouldn't reinstall that cam. That's just asking for trouble!

I reused my lifters, but they only have 30k on them and look brand new.
Isolde....the stock pushrods would be my guess besides the 120k old parts

Did you atleast use some wd40 and sandpaper to polish the affected lobes?
