My firebird overheated i the freeway. It was leaking water. Replaced the waerpump. It wasnt starting, I thought the opti-spark was trashed so I replaced it. But still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?

Before the opti-spark was removed. it would start but misfire alot. It would not stay on. I would have to press on the gas to stay on. Misfireing the whole time. Now the starter kicks, but after two seconds of kicking it almost soounds like its choking or loosing power. I didnt check for codes before the incident. No start. Thanks guys.

if you didnt line it up right, it would crank and sputter and die. It puts the timing all out of wack.
Edit: Sorry didnt look at the year. But its the same principle except the alignment of that little notch instead of the dowel :p

If they aren't really aligned, the opti would not have bolted down to the timing cover completely flush because of the keyway in the cam sprocket. It has to match with the notch/key in the gear on the back of the opti. Did it bolt down flush?
