Default Comp High Tech SS 1.7's FTW!

He guys, we recently switched the comp promag 1.6's out of the 96
(my bro's car now) for comp's high tech ss 1.7's and all I can say is WOW! The valvetrain is dead quiet, idle is smoother, and what we thought was an exhaust leak was cyl. 1 exhaust rocker bearing noise! Now it's gone woot. We went ahead and checked springs, push rods, and lifters, everything was like new after 8k mi. So it definately was the rocker causing the noise. the cam specs now are 233-239 .570-.580 w/ 1.7's, it also revs alot quicker now too. Moral of the story, anybody thinkin about getting promags should consider these!!!!

Any noticeable gain from the increased lift?

The denser material probably quites it down or the Promag could have been worn out. Pull the c-clip and see what it looks like inside
Cant wait to finish up my car and test my new HT SS pro mags out!!!!! Might have it done by this weekend. I hope!!

The new high tech pro mags look sweet. I run the stainless steel 1.6 rockers on my LTX and IMO they are the nicest RR out there short of the Sportsman Series shaftmounts by Jesel.

The sotp gain in the lower rpm's is night and day! Im not sure if some of the gain was from the pcm picking up the one noisy rocker and pulling some timing tho. Even with the stock 3.42 gears, a little blip of the throttle and the motor jumps up over 3k, huge difference on how fast it revs now.

Yea I want to disect the noisy rocker and inspect it. A member on here twofast4luv told me about the promags being prone to this over a year ago. He siad that he went thru 14 promags and the trunions were toast on all of them. You will love the HT SS over the old promags!!

Im almost happy my pro mag broke now, and looking forward to tring out the new ones on the new 355. Ellis knows his stuff and Ive heard about a ton of Pro mag probs since mine let go. I hope these HT SS promags resolve all the standard Pro mags issues.

I've heard the Crowlers are nice pieces too. I think the biggest ratio is 1.65 with that brand.

No. These are basically stainless steel pro mags. The are more expensive than the Ultra pro mags AFAIK.

^Yep those are it! They are so nice I want my LT back now lol j/k!! Really I think that one or two of the promags were takin a poop. It just seems like too much of a difference for it not to be. It's so quiet now when you pop the hood you ask yourself
"who unplugged the sewing machine" lol.

Nice!!! Are you running stock center bolt valve covers or tall aftermarkets?

Also, anyone running the 1.8 ratios on an LT1 (ie. Comp 1118-16)?

How much preload were put on the 1.6 Pro Mags when installed and how much were put on the HT SS 1.7's when installed? Just curious because if they were installed with different preloads then it can't be said that the new ones are quieter. I'm hoping you respond with the same preload for each because in that case I'll be picking up some HT SS's asap!

You should be using the exact same on each. Lifters determine the preload, not rockers.
