Default Guideplates GMPP or Comp or what

I already have a set of GMPP guideplates but I've heard talk that they are not hardened and I should consider another set.

What about the comp ones here http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/4808-1/10002/-1

If those aren't any good can someone point me in the direction of some that you have had good luck with.

I've heard of trickflow hardened ones or Isky adjustables being good.

take a torch to them until they are red hot and then quench them in water but be careful to heat them evenly so you don't make any thin weak spots. its not to difficult at all tho, maybe practice on some scrap metal if you have never done it before, don't go too hot and do it evenly and you'll be fine.

I use trickflow guideplates, not sure if they are hardened or not.

I've heard the comp plates may have a slight alignment issue. Has anyone experienced that?

Yes, lots of people.

You can take a file to the GM plates to see if they are hardened.

My experience with GM plates is they are not hardened. Wear quickly followed.

I have the ISKY "adjustables" work great

How do you do this Rob, what do I look for when I file it. Just how soft the metal is or what?

and can anyone link me to the Isky's?

Choose an inconsequential place on the plate and take the edge of a sharp file and see if it digs into the metal. It will want to glance off more, than dig in, if it is hardened (on normal metal, the file is going to dig right in). Check every one as some have gotten mixed batches.
