Default Symptoms after cam swap...

Ok, cam swap complete, car running, this is what it is doing.

Rough idle. sometimes it idles good, other times it will almost stutter and die...when it idles smooth it sits around 800rpm's. When it doesnt it is close to 500 and will sometimes drop to 200-300. Especially at stoplights.

When it doesnt die, it seems like it cant find its idle. It will move around between 300 and 1000 up and down and wont sit still.

It also seems like I am losing a little bit of power, however I have not gotten on it completely because I am trying to break in the new head gaskets...

I have an intake bolt missing. It is the one where the alternator bracket sits, but I got rid of that beracket. The bolt NEVER bolted into that hole since I got the car, and I do not have another bolt to fit it. I know it is not stripped, but would that be the problem???

Oil Pressure sits around 20 at idle, 60 driving...that is about normal right?

CEL is on as well, and I have not gotten to the auto zone to check what its on for, but it came on the SECOND I started the car. Might have something to do with it. I am about to go get it checked...what do you guys think tho about the idle?

has the car been tuned for the cam? that could be part of the problem, otherwise see what the scanner says, oil pressure seems right. good luck.

+1 you need to get tuned for the cam, I had to idle mine at ~950 to smooth it out and get rid of the cam surge at low rpms. Great drivability but alot of the lope is gone at that rpm

that is pretty rediculous though, I think that's more than a tune. like a sticking IAC valve or bad vacuum leak

a single pattern cam on a 112lsa like the ZZ409 should have no problem holding a smooth idle. my 224/230 cam didn't even idle lower than 700~rpm even with a stock tune

have you reset the pcm since your poor running condition?

You NEED to replace the missing intake manifold bolt.

Get it scanned, then come back with the results.

Have you checked your fuel pressure at all?

It was tuned by madtuner for this setup.

The codes were TPS and Crank Position Sensor. I replaced the TPS and it solved the idle problems. The CPS is on order now but is a quick swap. Acceleration is not up to par tho IMO.

The codes were P0127 (TPS), P0335, P0336, both 335 and 336 said the exact same thing...CPS. What would be the symptoms if my CPS is out???

Not to scare you, but a P336 and poor acceleration are the symptoms I had before I later got a P0300 and had to replace my opti. With the issues you said you were having with your opti not allowing you to fire up the car (I don't remember the exact solution), I suspect your opti as the culprit for your poor performance.

the opti was just installed wrong before, but I think it is a crank sensor out. I had the TC cover out quite a bit and banged it around. Might have messed up the sensor. That is a $40.00 fix. If that does not fix it, I have to take it apart again to fix my crank hub oil leak, so I can replace the opti at the same time. No worries. I am down to troubleshooting now, so I am fairly happy lol

If you installed the opti wrong, chances are the rotor bearing was damaged if you pressed the pin into the wrong slot by tightening the opti mounting bolts.

Your build gets my vote for "Epic Build Fail of the Year."

i wouldnt worry about it. As long as your smart enough and dont just throw a cam in and put the timing chain in any old way and expect the thing to work you will be fine. The guy who started this thread just needs to seriously put the down the tools and not work on cars ever again. He has no idea what he is doing.

Hes mentally el stupido.

get over yourself. God forbid I made a mistake. EVERYONE DOES! Get off of my *** about it. You cant tell me everything you have done in your life you did perfect and if you say you did then you are a ******* liar. There is not a single soul on earth who has never made a mistake. I at least owned up to the fact I made that mistake, took it like a ******* man, paid my dues, and fixed the GD problem! It runs now, better than ever, and sounds ******* great, so get off of it.

I came here for help and advice and I thank those people who gave me that. But your critisizm over a mistake that is done and over with is NOT what I needed.

I'm glad your a perfect mechanic in a forum and all...it means alot, really it does, but NOTHING YOU SAID EVER helped me with my situation or provided any insight. If you have such a ******* WEALTH of knowledge then I would think you would be smart enough to SHARE IT instead of being a moron and running me into the ground about this.
