ram air mod
i heard the non ram air ls1 air box also fits what you have if clearance is an
issue ... is this true ?im planning on doing the same thing with my 94 formula
its a good thing i work at a body shop. i just recently bought a ws-6 style
hood . now there is hope for those of us who run ram air hoods on our 93-97
birds. it beats the **** out of paying $300+ for an airbox from suncoast
or ebay .

the non ws6 ls1 air lid and base set up will just bolt on and not have any clearance issues, except for with an aftermarket lid, then you'll probably have some, hell, the ls1 guys do with some lids. But, with the ws6 base, the opening does line up pretty well for not being made at all for the set up.
Hopefully I'll be at the track soon to get some new numbers.
Thank you, so far I think it's been worth the headache to get it to fit.

well, I now have a LG Motorsports G2 lid on the car and that made a big damn difference, much more than the SLP lid that I borrowed. Last wednesday I went to the track since I had thought it was going to be good air, wasn't bad air, but was not nearly as good as it was the two nights before, and the track was pretty sticky since they had the real world street nationals just a couple days prior. Previous best was 13.61 @104.5 2.17 60' Driver Mod has been greatly improoved upon too.
first run, spun like hell off the line, and a little bit of second, 14.00 @105.8 2.52 60'
2nd run, best run, slipped the clutch out, but just a little too much, 2.21 60' 13.50 @ 106.4 didn't spin in first somehow, and spun bad in 2nd, almost half of 2nd.
3rd run and 4th runs spun bad off the line and bad into second, only thing better was mph, which was 106.6 on both.
I do have video of the second run but can't get it to work with my gf's computer, mine's f-ed up, again.
Will be going to the track again day after thanksgiving, and will be borrowing some nitto dr's, so should have some better numbers then.

UPDATE: Ok, borrowed a buddy's set of nitto dr's, 275/40/17 and went to the track last friday, and the weather was great cool temps(mid 50's) and humidity in the low 50-high 60% through the night. Had to air the tires up since his car has been sitting for a few weeks, so I put em at 24, and did my first run with them at that with not much heat, and no surprise, it spun like a bitch for about 12 feet, then hooked. Result was a 2.16 60' and a 13.4 at 106, best run for the car, but not near what it could do. So dropped the psi down to 18, heated them up some more, brought the revs up to 3k like previous run, dead hook, and bad bog, time ended up being basically the same. Third run, more heat, 3.5k, and boom, 2.03 60' and 13.1 at 107, I could feel that it was a good run from the start. Ran one more run before the end of the night 2.09 60' accidentaly short shifted first (5200) and ran a 13.3 ay 106. The car has a 12.9 in it, just not sure if I can get her there, so this intake has made a huge difference, and I'm feeling quite satisfied with my work.

Got any finished pictures and maybe some more of the underside of the hood. I'm going to be tackling this job in the next couple of days when my base comes in. I already have a slp lid. Also where did you trim the base at? Thanks

hopefully I'll remember and be able to take some tomorrow. Pretty much all of the trimming was done on the underside of the base. I used my dad's dremel and a cone and cylindrical steel bur type bit. I guess I basically grinded it down to where it would sit flush on the rad support, then would just grind more away across the whole bottom to get it to lower down. I also had to trim the edges of the lid for it to fit, I still have a little bit more to go to get it perfect, but have been putting it off.
Cool little fact. I recently got some data logging software, and now I can monitor the intake air temp, and it does not take very long at all for that temp to get down to a couple degrees below ambiant temp, even after sitting idleing and the intake heat soaking.
