Upon tear down i found both cylinder heads cracked in the center bolt hole to the center water jacket. do you think a machine shop can weld and resurface these? what would it cost?

They can be repaired but you would be spending the same amount as a good used set. Get a good used set and send those to the shop and have them worked.

Lloyd told me thats a common problem, he sees lots of heads cracked like that and he can fix them / have them fixed.

Buying a known-good used set would be ok, but you run the risk of buying a set cracked just like yours if you're not careful.

I would have mine fixed if I had that issue, but I like keeping as many parts as I can original to the car.

I just picked up a set of 347 heads fresh from a machine shop, cleaned, 3-angle valve job, gasket matched ports, new valve seals, and brand new 918 springs for 300 in the classifieds section.

what would you guys do???

i just got the heads back, they put a steel sleeve in the center bolt hole, decked and pressure tested the head... i take one look and they are still cracked!!! they wanted $250 for their repair work... i sent them back and told them i was over charged for work i did not request. i feel that if they weld the crack, deck the heads again, the compression will be to high to use or have built down the road. should i ask for a stock set of heads and pay 1/2 the labor they f'ed my heads up with... im pretty upset right now to say the least.

What is too high of a compression in your opinion. A slight mill to bump up compression would be preferrable...

Dude, LT1's are 10.4 stock!

11:1 is nothing for pump gas...

Have them fixed and milled and put it back together.
