Since it bolts in using the fuel rail bolts, yes you have to remove the fuel rail.

Thats what I figured, but it comes with longer bolts. I just wasnt sure if it could damage the fuel rail if I left it on.
Less I have to do in the engine bay the better.

I don't think you would want your fuel rails sandwiched between the plate and several hundred pounds of engine.

I've pulled my engine probably 6 times and have never removed the fuel rails using the Hooker.

The Hooker bends when you lift the motor with it, thus if you leave your fuel rails on you run the risk of damaging the rails. The bolts also seem to flex a little which could put pressure on the bolt holes and cause damage there as well.

I have always used it with the rails on. Why risk damaging/marring something when you don't have to. I usually put a soft spacer material between the bottom of the plate and the intake as well to make sure the manifold doesn't get scuffed either. I usually have quite a bit of time into the manifolds to make them look nice before the motor gets dropped in, so I really don't want anything messed up.

I don't know about the happy hooker, but I've taken out and installed an LT1 in an f-body from the top, using just a chain and a leveler - one bolt in the front (hole on block) and one diagonally in the back and lots of rags so it doesn't scratch anything. I've found that method ridiculously easy, and doesn't put your intake manifold to risk..

You say it can damage the rails, but you do it with them on anyway? Typo?

Newb question here. Does the happy hooker use only the fuel rail bolts to lift the engine?

I modified mine to lift my LSx, but I always took the rails off my LTs when I used it. Good luck,

Larry

Sorry, I meant without the rails on, ie, NO RAILS.

Yes, it was a typo...

Motor is back in.
Went real easy with the help of my brother and roommate to guide it in. Only prob is the cowl on a firebird doesnt clear the hooker that great but still went in without any major issues.
Just some wiring and odds and ends and we should be good to go!
Oh and it is very scary, lifing the engine and trans over the car just using the manifold bolts.
