CC305 or LT4 HOTCAM?
New to LT1's and have a 94 Formula A4 basically stock with only 71k, but has K&N FIPK and catless. I'm about to buy all of the folllowing this week:
Pacesetter LT's and Y pipe
-Edelbrock Performer heads (Edelbrock only because i am getting a steal on a new pair
- Cam (but still undecided on which one)
-Rockers (1.5 or 1.6, just depends on the cam)
-52mm TB
-All gaskets needed from Mr Gasket
-New timing chain/set
-Plugs and wires
...This will be a fairly mild setup, the goal is only another 80-100hp over stock numbers, will not put NOS on it. Not a daily driver either...Now to my question...Based on my plan above, found a deal on a LT4Hotcam and a CC305. Any opinions on which of these 2 will help more in the low to mid power range? As much as I love a good aggressive sound, sound is not a factor here, just looking for decent upgrade in low to mid range to help on the street. I did read the sticky on Cams (awesome post), but just looking for some feedback, or experience with these cams on mild setups....OR recommend different cam.
THANKS!!!

I will toss the cc503 out there for best overall performance considering that cam will make more power everywhere than the 305 and hot cam and will have a real strong mid-range that you will like. The hot cam and cc305 are not the best cams available these days but they will certainly give you pretty much what your looking for, so your definetly on track pretty well. Also, since you are focusing on low to mid-range performance I will also throw the LPE 211/219 and Crane 227 cams out there, they have very strong low-end to mid-range power.
In comparison to the cc305 and hot cam, the LPE 211/219 and Crane 227 will focus more on low-end power while the cc305 and hot cam will have more on the top-end. The cc503 will make the most power (solid 10rwhp/tq-ish, maybe a tad more) over the hot cam and cc305 throughout the powerband. Honestly seems like any one of them would fit your bill, I would certainly not go any larger however since your definetly in the market for a mild cam. So, if what you sincerely want is to have the strongest low-mid range that you can get, then you want a Crane 227 or LPE 211/219.
Also, your going to want to add a stall converter to that list. When you cam a car a larger stall converter is essentially a must for an automatic otherwise drivability and performance will be sub-par.

I've been running the CC305 for about 6 years. It makes OK power and is very mild. When my car is at operating temp with idle at 850RPM it sounds nearly stock, just a slight hint of lope. It drives very well and has decent low end. With your car not being a daily driver I would consider some of the other cams mentioned in previous posts. When I installed my CC305 I was still running the stock torque converter and could only run a 13.00 at the track. I then installed a 3400 EDGE stall dropped and dropped .7 off my 1/4 mile times and made a huge difference on the street as well.

Thanks Guys, so far, sounds like a custom grind or cc503 is the popular choice for a mild setup (and crane 227)...After all this is done, the next project will be bigger stall and gears, but that would not be until January. I don't plan on doing a dyno tune until after the stall and gears are upgraded, so my question now would be how bad would driveability suffer with head and cam upgrade on the A4 with stock stall? I mean, Performance should still be alot better than stock, right?
I'm hunting forums for a cc503 and decent used heads..

if you want it to be easy to pick out the parts, just buy the Ai 226/234 kit. comes with everything you need. and edelbrock sux, a 52mm isnt necessary. id you feel you need to take the heads off, get some impala ss head gaskets from the dealer. bumps you up to 11:1 compression. i dynoed 363rwhp with that cam and that head gasket with dremel ported heads
