EGR / AIR removal write-up with pics LT1 Z28 1993 Hey guys,
Got tired of hearing people ask about a writeup on this and it was time for me to do it myself, so I popped the hood and pulled out the camera. There really isn't much to take a picture of, though.
First off, I have longtube ebay headers. They came with emissions hookups, but didn't work for my 93 Z28, so I had to block off the emissions on the headers and delete EGR/AIR so I was a few steps ahead.
I believe only a 93 model is like this. A 94-97 model is basically the same, just with a few more parts to remove...
Anyway, to begin the process:
Go on ebay and order the blockoff plates. I got mine for like $15 shipped. Aluminum polished plates for the manifold, intake input, and the egr valve. Not sure if it will be different from my 93 model and 94-97.
You should have this:
Left to right: Manifold plate, EGR pipe plate, and EGR valve plate
You should also go to a parts store and get a variety of vacuum nipple covers as you will have to put a cover on a vacuum port on the intake.
I started by taking off my air intake(I have a K&N). This way you can get to the air pump. It is located on the driver side underneath the air intake tube. I just disconnected mine(2 hoses and 1 electrical plugin) and left it in as the bolts were hard to get to. It's not very noticeable anyway:

Pull out all the hoses from the pump to the air intake, and also to the egr valve(on back of the motor intake).
I cut about 3" of the hose and plugged it with an old bolt, then slid it onto the hole in the air intake:
Now to the fun stuff. Grab every tool you can find in 1/2". Sockets, wrenches, ujoint ratchets, etc...lol. It's tight behind the intake and you need whatever help you can get.
You will be taking off all of this:
EGR pipe:
I found it easiest to lay on my stomach pretty much on the radiator/motor so I could get a hand around the back of the intake from each side. There are only 4 nuts you have to take off back there. Feel around and you can find them. Once you get them broken loose, they should come on with your fingers the rest of the way. Get the egr valve and egr pipe off and replace them with the plates and reinstall the nuts.
There are some small vacuum lines that run off the egr valve. One to the AIR line, and another to a small box that has a line running to the intake. You will want to take that line off and use the vacuum cover on that port on the intake. Then, you are done.
I had one nut the p/o or someone had stripped on the egr. So I had to take and break off the egr with a pipe and bfh(big f'n hammer). That way I could get a tool on the nut. Other than that, it was very easy as long as you don't mind some scratches on your hands/arms from the tight fit.

No crossover pipe here. The stock exhaust manifolds had 2 connections. The driver side had the AIR and the passenger side had the EGR on top of the manfold. I have the ebay headers($399 shipped with ypipe)...The have emissions fitting but only for a 94-97. My 93 fittings didn't work so I had to plug the headers and delete the air/egr...
