I've never read a bad thing about Ion (madz28). I plan to go w/ his mail order tune, plus he's local.

Iv had both madz28 tune and pcmforless tune. I can honestly say the I would go w/ pcmforless for all my future tunes over madz28 because i got a bolt on tune from madz28 and i barly noticed a change. Then I tryed to update my tune for the cam and he couldn't do it unless i bought all this other crap. Pcmforless was able to tune my car w/o datalogging it or anything and on the 1st try it came out prity dam good.

MadZ28 (Ion) claims stock LT1's will pickup an average of 13 HP so if you have any mods it could be a little more. Worth it if you ask me. It's like paying $10 per HP which is well worth it.

I have almost a full bolt on car.

1.6rr's
4.10's
Pacesetter Lt's
160 Thremostat
Air foil
K&N CAI
Ws6 short shifter
LT4 Knock Sensor
True Duals into Dyno Max Bullets

How much is the PCM for less tune? Is it the same power gains?

I had my car tuned with Madz when it was bolt ons and it ran good. Now with the new motor i HAD a mail order again from him. I looked at the tune he gave me closer with my dyno tuner from Katech (vector performance) and it was really odd and way off. Timing curve was way off, it was a flat 32* across the board, in every rpm range!! There were some other odd little things that he did too that I'd have to say werent ideal

But my car is a bolt on car for now so should I go with Madz28 for the time being? I am going to eventually put a cam and worked heads on the car then I guess I will go with a different tune.

+1 I had both PCM and Ion. Ended up staying with PCM because I saw the difference when I raced my friends Cobalt SS.

i would go w/ pcmforless. you pay full price the 1st time then any updated tunes are cheaper. if you do end up going w/ madz28 for the bolt on tune you should stick w/ him for the cam tune as it will be cheaper.

There is nothing good about a mail order tune. The car needs to be DATA LOGGED, that is the only real way to get a good tune. All mail order tunes are super fat and generic. The are good for a safe tune but that is is, dont expect a miricle

I'm sorry, but what kind of test is that to compare tunes?

Can he bypass all the B.S. like egr codes and o2 codes so I can pass emmisions? That's what Im most worried about. We bypassed all the emissions crap when we put the headers on.

Like I said mine runs prity dam good on a miricle mail order tune from pcmforless w/ my cam and bolt ons. the best part is that they are going to deduct the price i paid for the mail order tune from the dynotune ill be getting from them. somehow my car also runs stronger then my brothers car that was dynotuned. idk could either be pcmforless is a better tuner then the local tuner we have around here or his 355 503cc lt1 was built wrong.

x2 for Ion! this is actually the most negative feedback in one thread that I've seen on his tunes, I def noticed a difference too going from the stock or the hypercrap tune to Ion's.

Race him with the Ion tune and we were even til ~100mph all 3 times. Pulled over changed the chip out to the PCM and cooled the cars down. Went at it again and now I put 1-2 cars by 100mph all 3 times.

I bought both tunes because I had the extra cash and wanted to see who really had the best tunes.

Fastest doesnt mean "best".

So Ion is more conservative than PCMFORLESS, big deal. That could be a very good thing.

I was getting some backfire on deceleration with the Ion tune and none with the PCM tune. It wasn't just the speed part.

But im just saying im much happier with my PCM tune over the Ion tune.

My car ran good with bolts ons (with ion's tune) and it ran pretty good too with Heads/Cam (again with ion's tune).

I just didnt like the way he tuned the car and the numbers that I found and neither did my tuner. There was A LOT left in it and some of the ways he did things were the "shortcut" way to do so.

I learned my lesson: Just get it dyno tuned from the start
