i know there are a bajillion threads on this, but just to check --- my friend ordered some accel 566 u-groove plugs for his 454, but they shipped him small block plugs so he gave em to me. they're gapped at .035 already. can i pop em in as is? or should i re-gap to .045 or .050?

Depends on their heat range. Stock gap is .050", but .035" is better in performance applications.

Because plugs are inexpensive though, I wouldn't put in an unproven plug. Just go to the store and pick up some TR55s. No need to guess, especially since changing plugs is a pain in the *** and you probably only want to do it once.

Who install plugs without checking the gaps? You can gap them to anything you want. Personally, I would just get some plugs meant for your engine like has been suggested.

Well from what I know big blocks use a spark plug with a gasket seal around the base of the threads and small block don't. Also the reach on a typical BBC plug is .750 some small blocks use .690. If you lucked out with a plug that works i would still regap depending on your compression ratio, stock (10.2-10.5) would be good to gap at .035. I've had a hell of a time dealing with spark plugs on the stock motor with all the same ignition upgrades as you and .035 worked the best.

So why wouldn't you use TR55s again?
