I was able to snag a firehawk air box that had never been used and looks perfect for $200 on ebay, with the bellow but no filter. In the condition it was in though I didn't mind paying that.

Are the firehawk boxes noticeably better or what?

The firehawk box setup has alot less plastic in front of the filter so I'd guess it has an easier time getting air in.

There's a company who makes one called APM. Has anyone heard of them? they want $209.99 for it. I mean I don't think there can be a quality issue with an airbox.

If any of these boxes are still up for grabs PM me and I envy you for finding that Ultra Z Hood. I have been trying to find one so I can sell my RK Sport SS Hood and get one.

Honest it was complete dumb luck that I found it. I always wanted one too because you don't see them as much as the SS's. I have the stock hood if you want to cover up yours so you can sell the SS for the cash to get the Ultra Z.

I just got the Ultra Z Ram Air hood on it and the factory lt1 ws6 box is a direct fit. I lucked out so much on that hood too, I got a REAL SLP casted Ultra Z hood for FREE. A friend of mine had it in his garage for like the past 5 or 6 years and he was never gonna use it so he gave it to me. It's in 100% perfect condition just needed to be cleaned, I shot it in black primer just to put it on the car and not have the white showing.
I have the sun coast box with my Ultra-Z Hood fits great,

I have the same airbox, and mine came from a 95 Firehawk which was rear-end totaled. (My friend's car) So I know that they were like that at least through 95.

As a side note, I need to clean my filter, lol, mine doesn't look anywhere near that good.

yeah i believe in 96 they went to the same box as the WS6 although without the rubber gasket and without the pontiac ram air lettering.

as for that $325 price, that is the reality of that piece. it's one of the rarest, most desireable 4th gen parts. I'm so glad i got mine a few years back for a LOT less than that, lol.

Also, it would mean covering up that pretty "Firehawk" logo (not that I'd care being a Camaro, but TA guys might). Solution I guess could be to determine proper placement and fasten/stick weather stripping to the top of hood so it seals to the box...
The Firehawk hood has those seals on the hood itself.

I paid $115 shipped for the oem WS6 airbox, a k&n and the maf to tb bellow

i paid $307.51 on ebay for the oem WS6 hood which was an unpainted prototype and drove ~ 300 mi round trip to pick it up.

this was back in early 2008.

I did the whole conversion including repainting my B piller and headlight doors, and painting the hood on both sides, plus buying little parts like the hood grills and MAF extension cable and the blockoff for where the old airbox sat for around $1200. i couldn't come close to that today.

Wow, sounds like you got a pretty good deal!

What was painting the B pillar all about? I'm unclear on what you mean by that.

my b piller (roof behind t-tops) was starting to show some white spots so when i took the car in to have the hood painted/installed, i had the body shop paint that panel too. total paint cost was $730 so i figure painting the hood cost $400-$500 of that and the roof was the rest, so i just mentioned it with the $1200 total cost since it was more than just the hood. i'd say the actual ram air conversion without the cost of painting the roof was ~ $1k.
