Still dont see your comparison to cams and pullies as relevant. Custom or not.

Uhh they cost more because they're on a BILLET CORE.

Get a billet core from comp and you'll pay as much or more than Bullet/LE/AI

look, i got a 1 off custom cam made for 330 bucks. he stated he got a cam from le (uses bullet) for 300. when i said a custom pulley for my blower is 250+ and another custom pulley is 180 i was inferring that the cheaper pulley had been produced before and thus was cheaper than the 1 off pulley (at 250+) and that this was a possible explanation as to why the le cam was 300 vs my bullet cam for 330. make sense now?

Has anyone had trouble out of their bullet cam. I put one in my new 383 LT1 build and it chewed up the oil pump drive gear and I lost all oil pressure. This happened about 2 months ago and I just had a chance to tear into it to see what happened. Engine only had about 2K miles on it. There more I think about it I'm started to get pissed off that that they ground my cam on a core that had a steel drive gear and caused my brand new engine to fail.

Don't see why the gear would suddenly fail in such a short time. But it's all chewed up and when I put my finger down in the hole the gear on the cam itself feels undamaged. Which leads me to believe it's made out of harder material than the OEM oil pump drive. But now what about all the metal it sent through the rest of the engine. I shut it down as soon as I saw the light in the dash come on. And I wasn't running it hard when it happened.

Oil pump gears have been known to fail and if it wasnted seated right thats your problem.

I would drain the oil asap pull the pan and take a magnent to the oil pick up screen and HOPE nothing got by it.

It was seated correctly. And I intend to pull the entire engine and disassembly and clean everything including the S-trim.

I have seen post about this a number of times and it is not just related to cam type or brand. Seems to be a crap shoot half the time putting that old thing back in there and praying there was nothing wrong with it.

Double check the plastic top of the dummy drive.

It is common for them to crack and bend, causing the drive to get pushed vertically and the gears to come out of sync.

Herron makes a trick billet piece to replace the plastic drive.

A billet cam requires a polymer or bronze distributor drive gear. The stock gear will self destruct.... like you mentioned.

It is possible to have a billet cam with the right drive gear. The last few cams I have installed for myself or friends have been billet with the EverWear gear.
