Default cylinder head crossover bolt?

I had the heads off of my 93 formy, and I lost one of the bolts that connects the coolant line on the back of both the heads. What is the technical name of this bolt if there is one, and would a local parts shop have one?

Just a note, im trying to finish the motor by tomorrow because I have to bring the car to a shop so they can install the rear end gears. (I dont want to shim it wrong, or do anything wrong, and hear a wine from the gears)

Thanks

they are called banjo bolts. They used to be a dealer only item IIRC but unfortunately; like everything else on our cars, GM discontinued them.

I had to pic one up from a member on here because i had had to cut mine all off after the bolts were seized in the heads.

damn that is bad news. is there anywhere at all i could pick one up or something i could use in place of it. I just searched on google and they make ones for brake lines. would it be possible to find the same thread pattern, and use that?

it is very possible. If all else fails you could always make one yourself. I know it sounds dumb but there really isn't anything to it. Get a bolt of the same thread, pitch, and length. Drill in the middle using your one your still have as a reference for the diameter, then drill in the four holes on the thread side very carefully.

DAMN good idea!! I will try that tomorrow. And if all else fails I will just order the assembly from summit. They do make replacement Crossover tube assemblys!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-10108635/

Same part number as listed here for the 93-94 LT1's.

Ill let you know how it goes.

ok sounds good. Hope it works for you. If not you can post up in the WTB and see if you can find one. Many people sell them. They guy i got mine from sells parts off of striped f-bodies and y-bodies that have been wrecked. The piece it got was in great shape and i think i paid $15 for it. Also i found that you can use the seals that come in the pack for a/c. I think it was like $7 for that. Plus it came with a bunch of o-rings that i can always find use for.

Good luck

Thanks, I just took a look at the bolt itself and noticed that it also has a hole right down the middle. do you think drilling a hole straight down the middle will compromise the integrity of the bolt itself, because of the pressure in the cooling system?

well i mean if the factory one has one so they must have figured it to be okay. As long as you drill on a grade 8 bolt you should be fine. There is still plenty of meat to the rest of the bolt. Dont forget to drill the cross drilled holes as well.

It would take a machinist to do it. Be advised that these are pipe threads.

Yeah I noticed that when I left today for work. =/ But I managed to find a memeber on here that has a couple spare's lieing around =D

I also found a Dealership in PA that actually had 2 of the Banjo bolts in stock, so I went ahead and ordered them, because of the scarcity of the part. Plus I want to have some extra's just in case for future endeavors on my project.
