Default CC306 AFR 195cc eliminator heads great MPG

CC306 and AFR 195cc eliminator heads better mpg than stock form.
Before my rebuild I was getting maybe 10mpg city/ 15-17 hwy.
I went on a road trip this weekend, first one since the build up, and covered over 500 miles averaging 22.34 MPG@ 72mph through an A4 with yank ss3600. Honestly I was expecting 18-20 mpg hwy. In town I'm pulling 13-15 mpg which is decent. For those who still wonder about the cc306 being streetable, this cam is great. Ya it's an old grind, but it's solid! I still get a slight cam surge but u get used to it quick. My passengers don't notice the surge but I do. The heads are a bit overkill for a 355, but again, no drivability issues. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too. Haven't made it to a dyno yet, but I'm expecting 420-430 to the wheels. Maybe after the dyno I can even get a few more miles per gallon.

If I decide to go rearmount turbo I was looking at AFR 195CC heads too

are the AFRs ported or "as-cast"?

kinda suprised you splurged on such nice heads and went with an off the shelf cam. don't get me wrong though the cc306 is a proven performer and has made great power

I've heard alot if bad things about AFR but that's from mainly guys with AI heads. With this being my first set if after market heads, I say they're the best company out. Lol.

This build was on the books for at least a year. I must have changed my mind a million times. Before this car I was a motorcycle guy. This was my wifes car that I kinda borrowed and never gave back. I read a few books and Internet post, asked a few questions, bought a few tools and jumped into this thing. I didn't know what to expect from a cc306 nor do I no what to look for in a custom grind. I'm not a master mechanic like most guys on here nor have I been doing this long. Just a guy who found a hobby and fell in love.

like I said CC306 is old tech but PROVEN which is all that really matters, that cam's been breaking the 400rwhp barrier for years

nice, i'm glad you like this setup. I was thinking the same only the 200cc AI heads with a custom solid roller. Great gas milage by the way.

AFRs are bad *** heads, the only complaint that people have about them that I've heard is that they get "too much" credit

From the research I've done, I agree. Myself not knowing which way to go, spent hours on the phone the past year with different companies and for a street cylinder head with nitrous AFR 195's got my vote. I have a wer kit I picked up but it's just collecting dust at this point.

Afr is the best Lt1 head out there by far.

AFR's are amazing. Imagine if they are ported again... lol

But I compared numbers between off the shelf heads and these had by far the best flow numbers. I prefer a new set of heads because I wouldn't like alot of down time :/

The mods did NOT gain you mileage. In the course of modding the car you fixxed something that was hurting mileage. New plugs and wires, a loose connection, an exhaust leak at the head to header connection, something.

Maybe you're right. I replaced everything but the antenna

lncboytre_d , which je pistons did you go with to get 11.4:1? I'm pretty much looking to do the same build, a 355 but i'm shooting for all forged rotating assembly w/hbeam rods. Most likely from scat. Its encouraging to hear such good MPG's with 400+ ponies

AMS Racing out of Shreveport Louisiana put my bottom end together, I'll have to find my receipt and get the part number for you. I told him the setup I had up top and that was the CR he said I would be at.

Very nice I wish I got that. No offense but I think your hp numbers are a bit of a stretch, trust me these autos with big stalls eat power like you would not believe on the dyno. The one time I put down 362rwhp/370rwtq unlocked with a setup that is pretty equal to you power wise and went straight to the track and did 11.88 at 114.3 in the heat so obviously the numbers dont really match up. However, you will easily be running 11's with your setup and that is all that matters!

Thanks for the heads up. Soon as I get a dyno run I'll post it up. Quick question, we originally set the shift and rev limit at +400 from stock shift point and the rev limit at 6400 to be safe, I'm bouncing off the wall in my 1-2 and 2-3, if I raise the limiter to 6600 will that fix the problem? The transmission is brand new so I hope it's not slipping. Also I upgraded my injectors to 34lbs.
