Default What size converter?

I have a 97 z/28 with a 355 lt1. Pretty much just a stock rebuild with the Comp Cams 503 cam, Speed Pro Forged Pistons, PS Longtubes, 3" cut out, 30#inj, tuned by pcm4less, stock 4l60e trans. Right now i've mustered up a 12.93 at 107 with a 1.8 60'. Im running BFG Drag Radials. It's got pretty much a stock converter in it now. Should I look to get a 3200-3600 stall to get deeper in the 12's on motor? The cars is tuned for spray but I have not sprayed it yet.

I would go with a vigilante or yank. 3600 would be my choice. What gears do you have?

A 3600 Vig. might be a bit much, depending on the rest of the set-up. The 2800 Vig. I had was more like a 3000-3200. They seem to under rate their converters actual stall rating. Great converter though.
With the SS3600 I'm now using with a 26" tire and 3.73 gear I'm maxed out (rpm) at the finish line on the nitrous. I'm thinking of having the converter restalled to a SS4000 and running a 28" tire.

Call Vicky and Precision Industries (makers of the Vig) and let her spec what converter stall would work best...I'd say a 3600 would work well...She might say a little less stall because of the nitrous..I'd check with them...

Yank SS3600 is the direction I would go. Good street manors and nice at the track.

Why would you not switch to a taller tire instead of taking away gear?

More tire would be a better option.

I have a Yank SS3600 stall and love it.

I'd say Yank SS3600 would be perfect for you

oh i dont know, i do read a lot, and have only heard great things about yank, my research has led me to believe yank is an all around better converter.

oh, that. and i run a SS3600 and i drive my car every sunny day in the summer (amazing street manners), take it to the track cut 1.68 60fts on bone stock suspension, with bone stock gears, with less then 300rwhp. And i run low 12's with my bolt on only LT1 thats a true street car.

GIZMO i know your a very knowledgable person about cars and esp LT1's and i admire your builds esp the way you work with younger adults but i have to say i do take some offense to your comment. seems like you were trying to show me up or embarress me with me being young (20 years old), very inexpirenced, and less knowledgable then you. At least we know where your maturity level sits. I thought you liked to help kids out, not try to embarress them.

Sorry to upset you, but you did make a pretty bold statement and still haven't made any really good points to back it up. You need to keep in mind that I am one of those guys that will change converters and/or transmissions at the track, mid eliminations if I think that I can get an edge. I have stacks of converters and transmissions from several different manufacturers. For what I do, I can tell you that from everything that I have tried, the ATI MRT 8" converters are the best that I own. I cannot tell you that I won't find a better converter next week. I also can't tell you that the exact same converter will work behind a big HP nitrous or boosted car, etc.

That's an interesting statement to make. If your skin is that soft, maybe you need to tame down your comments on technical discussion forums. Insulting me just might be a little silly. If you knew me you would know for a fact that I love working with kids accross the globe. I do not have any time for BS and always tell it how I see it. Take that any way that you want, but know that embarressing you was furthest from my agenda.

I once ran the cc503 with a Yank SS3600 and that was a really nice match. It performed well on and off the street. Yank recommended I go with the SS4000 if staying N/A with that cam however I decided that I wanted to run a 150 shot so they suggested the SS3600 so that the shift extension would not be too tight on the spray. I never ended up spraying the car but I loved that stall and would recommend it to you.

Thats interesting since I remember Dave recommending me an SS3600 for NA and SS3200 for NOS.

What was your setup back then?

To the OP, speak to the manufacturers directly and see what they recommend.

GIZMO you were clearly trying to "prove" something with your comment. all i said was IN MY OPINION yank is the best converter on the market. thats my personal opinion. no reason to try to embarress me and prove your "expirence". like i said i know you are very knowledgable, and i admire your builds and the way you work with kids. but IN MY HONEST OPINION you didnt sound to "friendly" or "helpful" with that comment towards me. I'm sure ati is a grea converter, i have heard great things from them too, and no i havent changed converters in between rounds. all i know is im very pleased with my yank SS3600 and i know i havent heard one negative thing about it. therefore IN MY OWN OPINION i think it is the best all around converter on the market.
