Default clunker engine

I was out at the junkyard today. They have a 1996 9c1 caprice that was part of the cash for clunker program. It has the tag on it for being liquid glassed. Question is has anyone seen inside one of these motors after it has been done? I was looking at getting the intake, tb, injectors and anything else that would be usable. Thanks jeff

From what I see the liquid glass goes into the oil...so the intake should be fine along with the throttle body and injectors. The heads are probably not good due to the liquid glass going into the top of the head such as rockers, valve springs, valves, pushrods... The bare head still might be good...other than that I think the whole shortblock would be cashed...except if you wanted to rebore the block, you might be able to do that....not worth the time for those parts

I'm interested to see the inside of one of them too and see how much it gets damaged.

Maybe on lunch Ill run over to the core shed and pull one apart for you guys. I would say the blocks devinetly wouldn't be reusable due to the liquid glass hardening in the oil passages.

your right its not. my friend has taken a few down and the block passages were clogged and the cranks were trashed. he said the heads could be saved though.

This might be a dumb question and sorry to hijack, but why would they do that to an engine?

Short answer......
To remove the replacement parts from the supply chain so that other politically incorrect gas guzzlers can't remain on the road.

That is what I thought, but didn't want to believe. That is just terrible

I'm not a fan of it so I own my lifted truck and drive the hell out of my f-body and use plenty of gas.
