Default Optispark help!!!

I took my camaro 2 the mechanic because when i'm driving and make a stop the car will turn off then when i turn it on it hesitates 2 move. They did a diagnostic test on it and they said that it needs a optispark and a water pump. Could those things be the problem with the car? And is the optispark expensive 2 fix???

There not to expensive to replace nor hard either. I lifted one side of my car in the air enough enough to get under it. Took me a just under 3 hours start to finish (tools put away) to complete it.

"Expensive" can be a relative term I suppose. ~$300 for an OEM unit and $500+ for a quality aftermarket unit is "expensive" to me.

Costs:
OEM Opti from thepartsladi on fleabay - $260 shipped.
Waterpump from Autozone - $70 plus shipping
Other items needed:
Gasket sealer for wp gaskets (2)
Thread sealer for wp bolts
Antifreeze to replace lost coolant
Rented harmonic balancer puller
Silicone sealer for Opti cap
Loctite for Opti rotor screws
The last two items are important, and will probably not be done by a shop, only by yourself.
This is reusing all existing hoses and clamps.
And if it is your first time, do not expect to be able to do it in 3 hours. It just ain't gonna happen. After you've done it a time or two, probably. Allocate an entire day and have a vehicle/friend standing by to get the parts you forgot to pick up.

Replacing the opti is not actually difficult, but there are allot of parts that need to be removed taking time, so the labor cost is high. If you have average skills you'll save allot of money doing it yourself.

Use the link below for details on what you need to remove. ( use the cam removal/install, so they details what you need to remove the WP and Opti ).

Autozone has the optispark for around $175.00 , it is a Remanufactured unit, but it also has a limited lifetime warranty. I have replaced mine 4 times under the warranty when the water pump leaked, I drove through water, etc. I've never gotten a bad unit either. It does not come with a cap however so you could purchase an MSD cap if you like.

You don't need a harmonic balancer puller. A simpler, cheap 3-toe puller will pull off the pulley.
